I do alot of video editing, and watching w/ premiere pro and other applications. However, in the process of cleaning my computer, my dad changed something that has caused and awefull effect.

Every time I load a video a windows-installer pops up prompting me to install "Photogallery"

I click "Cancel" a few times (since it can't find the source of where to install it from - aka installation will always fail) - 3-4 cancels later, the window disappears and my computer works fine until a close the program and try and open another movie file.

Everytime I open a video in Premiere pro this happens - every time I open a video in windows media center - and every time I open a folder on thumbnail mode which has movies in it. - for a video person, this is VERY annoying

Photogallery does not try to install while viewing videos online such as youtube, or for opening any other type of media besides video.

I'm running an HP Pavilon Home Media Center - XP Professional - 2 gigs RAM, dual 3ghz processor, GeForce 7300LE graphics (128mb) and Realtek HD Audio Card

any idea about the source of this problem?

well firstly you can use system restore so that you can have your pc back before your dad change that folder, k so you have tried to install it and it will not so have you treid uninstalling it in the control panel and then reinstalling it, how long ago did this start giving problem. The other reason is that your dad might have deleted a file that was connected to all your media players, meaning that when you install programs some of there files are the same so they share them so if you delete one program it could cause the other one to stop working. So you just have to check if that file is in the recycle bin or use system restore or the long way aroung uninstall all your media players and they reinstall. Good Luck

Well, I'm an idot and havent set any system restore points.

I have updated all my drivers, both video and audio, and re-installed the lesser video-programs.

Knowing that its system-wide I doubt that its related to a specific program

Also, my dad's not an idiot when it comes to computers - and I highly doubt he did somnething stupid like deleting some random file.

Hi Itsmeajca. This has nothing to do about level of knowledge or anything like that. Something could have inadvertently been deleted. I have some questions for you:

- Since I am not familiar with PhotoGallery, please tell me if this is an application that is pre-installed with Windows or something that you had to purchase and/or download?

- Either way, as stated earlier, have you checked the Add/Remove Program utility to confirm that the PhotoGallery application is actually installed?

- Are you sure you did not have System Restore activated? Normally, System Restore is monitoring your hard drive(s) unless you disable it. To confirm this:
1) Right Click on "My Computer" and click Properties
2) Click on the System Restore tab
3) If there is no check mark next to "Turn off System Restore on all drives" then there are automatic points created each night or at some interval



In the future, you may want to create System Restore points at your own leisure. If you are not sure how to do this, you can follow the instructions listed within this Document.

Have you tried a registry repair utility?



Sounds like a shared DLL, or other file, was inadvertently removed.

the weird thing is, I can't find anything about a "photogallery" aplication ANYWHERE?

it exists no where on my computer except in that annyoing install window.

and I've found absolutely nothing about it through google or wikis

a couple months ago, my computer was trying to install photogallery every time I opened a folder with any sort of image, but I disabled that by going into folder options and turning "do not cache thumbnails" off - so I'm guessing its related to somehow previewing the video files?
