I am not able to get any sound from my pc. me or my son must have accidently dropped the sound file or ??. I'm running an older Dell, on Windows XP, and I believe the sound driver is a Realtek AC'97 Audio sound Manager. I downloaded a version off the Net, but there still is no sound.
Here's what is being said in the Control panel and Device Manager:
* under "Sounds and Audio Devices", under "volume" it says "no audio device".
* under the same, in "Hardware---> Multimedia Audio Controller--> Device Status" it says "not configured correctly(code 1)".
* in the "Device Manager", under "Sounds , Video, and Game Controllers", the icons next to the various codecs have yellow exclamation points. Selecting on the "properies" of these it says "driver corrupted or missing(code 39).
That is the extent to what I know is wrong. Any help or advice on how to correct this would be appreciated.
thanx, j gross

Hey there welcom,

well firstly there might be a problem with ur sound plug in, or here are some utilities that u can use to try fix ur problems or download ur sound card driver on this page. If this does not work try download one of the utilities on this page and post the error message if it has one.www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tg=dl-20&qt=Realtek%20AC'97%20drivers&tag=srch the other thing does ur sound device have power as sometimes it might not get power and even pluged in and no power the pc will not find it. Or if u can use another pc and try install the sound driver on there and see if it works, how old is this sound device? i have a screen shot that i would like to send u if u have a email adress, when u go to my pc, right click, properties, hardware, device manager and the go to your sound device and go to the driver on the bar at the top and then look at the driver date and see if you have installed it properly or go to update driver if not or go to the web site i above wrote, hope i helped.

Okay, here are a couple of points:

- From where did you download the audio driver? ...and are you sure that you downloaded the correct driver?

- When you Right Click on the device with the exclamation point, you should see, "Update Driver..." Did you click on that to allow Windows to automatically update the driver?

- I went to Dell's website and, without your Service Tag number, I was able to pull up this Analog Devices - Driver. I believe this is the audio driver for your computer.

Now, if it is not, you would need to do a search through Dell using your Service Tag number. DO NOT POST THAT IN HERE. Instead, click on this link and click on "Add or Edit Service Tag." This will give you a more defined search for your computer.

- If the above does not work, a System Restore should restore the computer back to its original state. You will lose any applications you installed after the restore date you choose but you will not lose any files. If you are not sure how to use System Restore, click on Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.

Please post and let us know if any of this works for yo.
