The try to update the bios under Windows caused a failure. The consequence was that I lost the screen and hard disk activities totally.
The floppy and cd seemed to be working but there was no sign of booting to DOS or Windows or Knoppix . I've also tried
a local homenetwork connection with a cable resulting no sign of life there. Did I update my computer to the destination of a wastebasket?
Is there any practical advice to get without very heavy tech educational burden?
The details:
HP Vectra VE, 400 250Mb, Win Me, BIOS HW.27.09 (QHW.09.05),
The unsuccessful try version HW 27.10

Its always a good idea to update the bios thru the bios, and not thru windows. If you can't access your pc, they likely your mobo is dead and you will either need to get someone else to reflash it for you (there are businesses that do it), get a new chip from the manufacturer, or get another motherboard.
