I have a problem trying to install iTunes&Quicktime 7.4.3 because I need it for my iPod 160 GB, when trying to run the installer it always tells me that "the InstallScript engine is missing and that I have to run ISScript.msi", you see, I have InstallShield 2008 Premier evaluation program which supposedly has InstallScript but this ISScript.msi file is nowhere to be found, since I already read that they suppressed this file and made it into a ISSetup.dll, I have Windows XP but nothing has helped me so far, updating InstallShield 2008 didn't work, not even installing the Windows script or trying to repackage this .dll file, and none of these files that the people from Macrovision provide in their page are compatible to this 2008 edition, now, does this InstallScript have another name in the folder?, is it or not installed?, or if it is, it has another name and I have to run it, and which is it?, or is this a common problem in the iTunes installer itself? or can I use another program to sync files successfully to iPod(even though I kind of read that only iTunes is used)? what can I do????????????? please if you could help me, I'd definitely appreciate it.

You might want to post this in a new thread, rather than latching onto an old thread that is not directly related. It would help more people find your issue and potentially offer suggestions. A moderator might be able to split it off to a new thread ([~44270]...are your ears burning yet?).

As to your issue, I am not sure where InstallShield 2008 Premier evaluation came into things. Did you have this already installed? Or did you install it after you had downloaded the iTunes/Quicktime installer and had problems, hoping it would address the error message that you got? If it is the former, then I would uninstall InstallShield 2008 and try installing iTunes again. And I am assuming that you downloaded the iTunes installer from Apple, correct?

:-) Hi Smax. Thanks for the plug... LOL :D

Hi Lillix. Welcome to PCWorld. :-)

A couple of points:

- As Smax stated, it is best to start your own Discussion rather than create a post that has nothing to do with the existing Discussion.

- I have moved your post into its own Discussion and renamed the Discussion to attract the other members within this forum.

Please respond to Smax's questions and we can proceed from there.

The day that I first tried to install iTunes/QuickTime 7.4.3, I just downloaded it from apple(of course) and when I tried to run it(well, I had had iTunes 6 and Quicktime before), this "InstallScript engine is missing" text appeared just after the "calculating free space" was loading, I tried this like 5 times, I think, and nothing, so I started looking for this InstallScript engine ISScript.msi, Installshield (stupid thing) and all links took me to www.macrovision.com and the only version right now is the 2008 evaluation, si I downloaded it and installed it, the problem remained, this program didn't make any difference, I thought this would solve the problem since InstallScript is one of the products they supposedly put in this program but still this appeared, I've even tried something like InstallAware, I've tried updating InstallShield 2008(update version 14), I've gone to apple.com and they mention a dependency of VBScript but not InstallScript, I've tried cleaning the temp file, tried uninstalling the previous versions of iTunes & QuickTime and restarting to see if it could work and install the new one and nothing; I think it's been like 2 weeks already since I started trying on and on to get this thing installed and NOTHING!!!!!!!! and what is the worst is that I need this program 'cause I still haven't been able to sync anything, I mean NOTHING at all to my iPod, oh... I was forgetting in one of the many(really a lot of) suggestions that I've read so far, one of them(from Apple or Macrovision, one of them) said something like "it is possible that there's still no solution supported and you would have to find one yourself", but I have no idea what to do 'cause I'm no expert in such complicated programs unless I'm guided, please if u got an answer, tell me

thank u guys(if u respond) lol

oh I was forgetting... out of my 21-day free trial I have 1 week left, so this freaking file's gotta come out ASAP, I'd appreciate it if u told me,

bye, c-ya

Sounds like you have done the main thing that I would have suggested...remove any older versions of iTunes/QuickTime and reboot and try installing.

I have stuck at this point. It sounds like either the installer that you downloaded got corrupted and is missing some stuff...or it not able to properly intiate some things that it needs to install. The best thing I can suggest (if you have not tried it already) is to download the installer again. Uninstall all the Quicktime and iTunes stuff that you have currently installed (if any at this point), re-download it, and try installing again.

The only other option that I can think to do is to call Apple (if you have not done so already). You get one complimentary support call for a new iPod if you use it within the first 90 days after purchase.

Now, I did find this thread...it might help. Another thread suggested trying the Micro$oft Windoze Installer CleanUp Utility to clean up old iTunes/Quicktime install crude and then try reinstalling (I would try this with my above suggestion of redownloading after uninstalling).

Hopefully, one of this will work so that you can get using your nice new iPod.

To solve this situation, couldn't you just go back to iTunes.com and download another iTunes application? Even when you get this resolved, you would not be able to get the full use of iTunes allotted to you. On top of what Smax has already provided, once you resolve this situation, completely uninstall your current iTunes and go back to get another download.

You spent two weeks battling this issue. The least you should do is contact Apple, as Smax suggested, and explain this situation. Regardless of whether or not you resolve this problem on your own, contact Apple. You may be able to get an extension on this particular trial. If not, go with my original suggestion and download another iTunes application.

when I redownloaded iTunes some days ago, I had used this Windows cleaner, but I'm not exactly sure if this Windows thing was right because they say there is something to select files to clean or something but when running this cleaner I always see that it cleans the Microsoft Office, ther isn't anything to choose iTunes or QuickTime to clean, so the thing I had to do was try to use the Shredder that McAfee has and almost everything was removed, but the iTunes Helper and one little file, and the iPod Service don't want to be removed from my computer, so I just restarted my computer and redownloaded the iTunes installer(tried all iTunes&QuickTime 7.4. Pack, and the standalone versions), try to install it in the hope that there would be no more problems but still the SAME.

Well, when trying what you suggested about that link about installsite.com I think the link was not available at the moment or was broken, (nonetheless I'll try this one once again later to check if it works, but the think that makes me doubt a little is that it kind of gives me the hint that is for previous versions, but I'll try again)

And to answer mph..... I checked the number to call but the thing is that my iPod was purchased in the US by my dad, but I live in Peru, and they don't have any customer support number in Peru, so far they do not mention any number for Peru in the worldwide numbers section, and the e-mails are for the itunes store, so I'm actually freaking out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I'm getting desperate and annoyed now!!!!!!

well, guys, hope u got an answer since u are the experts

(Hours after I wrote the last thing)

I tried cleaning the quicktime with the windows cleaner again and tried to install this again, but new things appeared, quicktime installed until the part that the ISScript.msi is needed, which appeared as always when the validation is taking place so as always I had to put finish to the notification that says there was a mistake yadda yadda.... and then I checked and the version of Quicktime 7.2 appeared in my computer and it opened but none of itunes is there, so I tried looking for the standalone version of itunes as there was some weeks ago to at least try this one that is not all packed and they have all the package now, so I don't know how to proceed anymore, should I install a previous version and try to upgrade it or what? do you personally have the standalone version of iTunes? because the error remains and now Quicktime opens but iTunes(which is the one that I need) doesn't

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only other thing that I can think of is to try uninstalling iTunes/Quicktime when booted into Safe Mode.

Beyond that, I can only suggest calling Apple. The US number to call is 1-800-275-2273. Now, since you are in Peru apparently, I am not sure how that will effect things (i.e. will the call go through to a US toll free number?).

Beyond that, I am stumped.

Hi Smax. Do you remember not more than 24 hours ago, we mentioned that we rarely run into a problem we cannot resolve....unfortunately, this is one of those times. :-(

Hi Lillix19. I do not believe there is anything more that we can do that either we haven't suggested or you haven't tried. You may have no choice but to reach out to Apple. Now, since you are in Peru, you may be able to have your dad place the call and then call you, in essence creating a conference call.

Good Luck and please keep us posted.

Hey guys...I had exactly the same problems but I sorted it out (well...after wasting my sunday on it). The thing is, when I looked at the solutions proposed by Installshield Costumer Center website (http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108158) I tried to download ISScritp7x.zip and install it, because itunes version "begins with 7". Off course it didn't work.

I don't know anything about computers....but...however, I resolved to intall all other Isscrip.msi files available, i.e.version 8, 9, 10. 10.1, 10.5 and 11 , because I thought the Itunes guys could be using a different engine. So, I found a different website (as there is no link to download 10, 10.1, 10.5 and 11 at installshield website) and installed everything in my computer, from version 7 11. Here is the website source:

http://zhidao.baidu....6394.html?md=1.

Before installation, I made sure itunes and quicktime were completely ininstalled from my computer.

Also, there were still two erros during the final installation of itunes + quicktime....I have no idea what they meant. However, they didn't compromise the installation and I finally could use my ipod normally

I hope this helps a bit,

good luck.

Prior to this last post, I tried everything one last time, with macrovision out, I did what this last person said but not only did I install this script but I installed both the update InstallShieldEngineUpdate0900 and the ISScript9.zip(the ones that say if yes... and if no...) in this order first the update and then the .zip from the version 9(or the one your computer has) from the site (comsumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=q108158) this last person mentioned just to try one last time(I hadn't read this last post) since I saw this wasn't here because I had version 7, 8 and 10, the thing is that I had thought the same as this person but from this same page I took both(of course having uninstalled iTunes&Quicktime as smax and mphenterprise said) and tried once again and finally this INSTALLED!! the thing is that it opened easily as it should've, now for all the other readers that may encounter the same problem, if you're going to use an iPod 160 GB(like me) it's possible that this doesn't recognize the iPod at first without restoring the features(not updating) so it's possible that the iTunes doesn't recognize your internet connection(as it did to me) so it's useless to do this from iTunes itself, you have to do it with the ipod, and then just sync,

now I'm incredibly grateful to smax and mphenterprises for answering my posts and helping me not to do some things I even thought of doing(reset the computer), but no, thank you guys so much, I guess this should also help some other people that encounter the same problem, I'll keep you posted about the progress, guys, if I ever encounter another problem concerning this, you'll be the first to know

thnx so much, guys;-)

HEY, guys, it's Lillix19 again here, guess what, I now have another issue but with another program, it's with AVS Video Converter, sorry I know this problem is entirely different but I don't seem to find the link to open a new discussion in this site, well, it's just about a deletion-of-files kind of thing, well, the thing is just that I joined two files and the final file is good no flaws concerning image or anything but the thing is that the result file I just made it to test the program and now I'm trying to delete it but Windows doesn't let me and not even McAfee's shredder eliminates it, and when I open the CtrlAltSupr it opens the window and I see the processes but avs is not there, 'cause it's not even open (unless its technical file name is different), and the notification of Windows is that some other application is using it when no other programs are open, I just want to erase it because it's taking like 200 MB of free space.

Once again guys, I'm sorry for continueing this thread when it's not related at all, but I've just been looking for the link that creates a new discussion and I can't seem to find it, maybe I'm getting blind or this problem is getting me a little upset,

hoping you got an answer to this, after battling the last one(lol) thanks for everything, hope to hear from you guys, bye
