When you add to the Internet Explorer Favorites list is there a way to have them out in alphabetical order?

Hi SirDuke. Welcome to PCWorld. :-)

To my knowledge, you cannot automatically organize Internet Explorer's Favorites in alphabetical order. Obviously, you can manually place each favorite in alphabetical order.

However, you can sort bookmarks within Mozilla Firefox in alphabetical order. If you decide to get Firefox, follow these steps to alphabetize your bookmarks:

- Click on Bookmarks

- Click on Organize Bookmarks...

- In the secondary window, click on View

- Make sure Sorted by Name is selected

- Click on Ascending

This will automatically format your Bookmarks in alphabetical order. Click the x to close the secondary window and your Bookmarks will be alphabetized.

Hi, SirDuke. I know this post has be tagged as Answered, and forgive me mph, do not want step into your well informed toes. However, SirDuke, if you don't want to go the Mozilla Firefox route, there's still something you can do with your Favorites. You can Organize them.

If you have Vista, the process may take a little while depending on the number of Favorites you have saved, but it might be worth your time.

The process should go something like this:

Open IE. Click the Add to Favorites button, and then click on Organize Favorites. Here you will see a list of your favorite links and folders. From here you can Open Folder to see the links it contains. Or not, it's up to you.

You will see buttons named: NEW FOLDER | MOVE | RENAME | DELETE.

You can move the Favorites: click MOVE and select a link or folder and then drag it to the new position or folder.

Or, you can rename your links or folders: click on a link or folder and then click RENAME. Type the new name and then press ENTER.

Now you will have organized your Favorites, by Renaming them in the order you wish.

Hi Adama. No need for apologizes. :-) I am glad that you had another viewpoint. The steps you presented to SirDuke are available in Internet Explorer 7, no matter the Operating System. Honestly, that is the first thing I considered before I posted my suggestion. The only problem is this only works for the existing favorites. Once new favorites are added, they would automatically be put at the bottom of the list and then a manual sort would have to be done to integrate them into the alphabetized list.

I believe SirDuke wanted to find a way to alphabetize the favorites list automatically.

Yeah, I know that. Maybe next time M$ will send an intelligent upgrade to include organizing the Favorites in alphabetical order. It's probably such a minor thing but if you are a little, bitty, anal retentive like me, you go ahead and rename, rename, rename... no matter whut. !http://forums.pcworld.com/legacyimages/

Hi, SIRDUKE. I wanted to let you know that I found a way to organize IE Favorites in alphabetical order. I've just submitted a document to kellie and it is pending approval. It will be published in a couple of days.

Actually, you can. Just open up the bookmarks list (if using IE 7, click on the little gold star) and then right-click on any bookmark/favorite...then select "Sort by Name" from the pop-up menu. Note: it will also work if you do it with the Favorites menu...click on the menu, then right-click on the resulting menu and select "Sort by Name".

I don't believe it will add new favorites in sorted order automatically...you have to do the process again.

I will note that you can do the similar process with your Programs in the Start Menu.
