I am attempting to buy a laptop for my husband for christmas. He would need to use it for video editing, with a program such as Adobe Premiere CS3. I have absolutely no knowledge of this program. Any advice you might be able to give me as to what type of laptop would be most compatible with a program like this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

CS3 may not be compatible with Mac OS X Leopard until an update is available in January.
Premier Pro CS3 does have some incompatibilities with Leopard, but other programs in CS3 don't. Supposedly, Adobe will have an update in Dec for Premier. See this link for more information.

What I nice setup for my daily shameless Mac plug! It is almost like I don't have to do anything else! :-)
Depending on how much you want to spend, either a MacBook or a MacBook Pro would work. If your husband will be doing a LOT of video editting, then the extra money for a MacBook Pro will likely worth it. You will want as much RAM as possible and as big a hard drive as you can get/afford. A faster processor is not essential, but will certainly help. You will also want to look at Final Cut Pro as an alternative to Premier.
Now, if you have an aversion to Apple, then you can do pretty well with a Windoze PeeCee. I would advise the same...as much RAM as possible and as big a hard drive as possible. I would also suggest you select a laptop with a Firewire port, especially if he will want to import in video footage from camcorders.
