I purchased Diskeeper Pro Premier 2007 about 2 months ago. They recently updated to 2008 about a month ago and offered a free update to people who purchased it 30 prior to release. Go figure free update in the return refund time. I e-mailed Diskeeper and this was their response. I didn't expect to get the free update, but a prorated fee would have been acceptable. They sent this rude letter back. When this expires I'll be changing to Iobit or does someone know another good defrag. utility thats similiar. I feel sorry for anyone experiencing problems in the program with this company. "Sorry your having problems, but its your problem now."

Dear ------,

Thank you for your comments. I would like to inform you that your Diskeeper is yours and you can use it as long as you would like to.

Best,

Simon

:D Hi Simon :

For quite some time I have been using the very quick, good & FREE "Power Defragmenter GUI.....",

developed by antiSPYWARE Expert "RejZor" and available at his Site at

http://www.excessive-software.eu.tt . Became aware of this program while helping out on the

Avast Antivirus Support Forums .

I'm sorry I neglected to mention I'm using Vista. I looked at and it is a pretty awesome defragmenter if they ever update for Vista, I'll will be downloading it.

Anybody who takes time to read this needs to check out the site. There are a bunch of great downloads on it for other purposes.

Thankyou Spiritwind

Newest response by Diskeeper,

Dear -----,

I apologize for my response. What I was trying to communicate is that your Diskeeper will not expire and if you would like to keep using it for more then a year you have that option.

Best,

Simon

:D Hi Simon :

Perhaps you should consider using Contig v 1.54, available at

www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/Contig.mspx ; I understand this version is

Vista compatible !? RejZor's "Power Defragmenter" includes an earlier version of Contig, namely

v 1.52, which you have discovered is NOT Vista compatible !?

I'm not sure what features other than defragging you are after. I fully realize that there are different schools of thought on defragging, but the school that Microsoft belongs to is that all segments of a file should be sequential, but that the files on the disk do not need to all be up against one another.

In Windows XP most of the time when you ran defragmenter, it would come back and inform you that is was only slightly fragmented and you did to need to defragment. But, you could run defragmenter any way and watch the graphics.

In Vista, it like XP before it, will periodically defragment, and you can manually defragment, the little graphics show is gone however. Probably, a victim of large drives. Would you really want to sit there and watch a terrabyte drive defragment? My 160 is bad enough. I have long allowed Windows to defrag with the built in applet, and have never had a problem.

Thanks Spiritwind and Rgreen,

I like how Contig sounds. I wish I would have known about before I purchased Diskeeper and overkilled I think it was 80 or so bucks. I will give it a try when my time runs out or I might shutdown Disk. and run it to try it out.

Regarding the other question, I am just a home user, but I am constantly adding and deleting programs. That's why I love this site I love the freeware thats not filled with junk. I have Vista Home Premium and I've used the defragmenter on it, but it takes so long to use and doesn't seem to do the job. I had Iolo's System mechanic 7 Pro on my computer at one time and the defragmenter on it would show little defragmentation done after I would run the Microsoft defragmenter. Unfortunatly I installed a Nvdia's newest driver for my Video card and it would lock up my computer. So I reinstalled Vista and it would not allocate a socket for Iolo System Mechanic. I didn't take the time to follow up on it with Iolo to see how to fix this problem (great program, terrible antivirus though).
