Hey Everyone! I was waiting on a Program that i was downloading when, I thought(not that I do this often) how can I find out how fast my connection to the net is. So I Googled and landed on this web site...Speedtest.net. My results should be below (if this works). Now it would be interesting to see results from other members if only for Bragging Rights. Are you up for the challenge?

You can also just use the image upload tool that is built into the forum. Click on the image of a picture in the tool bar above where you type your post, and you can use the web image tab.

This is what we used to call a "pissing contest" - to see who can shoot the farthest. I know people who get MBs up and down and I know people who are lucky to get 20 kb up and down. There is no sense to posting such a "CONTEST" except teen angst.

If some of you have slow speeds you may or may not be able to increase it. There are many factors including line quality, distance from your isp's CO, your line SNR and attenuation, etc.
I will bet that many of you are paying for far more than you are getting. It isn't uncommon to pay for a 5mb or a 7mb connection and only be able to get 1.5-3mb speed. If this is the case, then you can contact your isp and they will do a line test and see if you CAN get a faster connection, if not, then you may be able to negotiate a smaller fee, after all, would you want to pay for 5 gallons of gas when you know that you are only getting 2 gallons. The fact is that many people have no idea what speed they are getting, but there are many tools to check. I use Speakeasy.net and Speedtest.net.

Hey Chuck! I'm sorry if you are offended by my post, but in all fairness this is just a little R&R. There is also the fact that there will be some valuable information posted along with some fun. As you can read already there are some explanations on how to post your results and to see if you getting what you are paying for. Not everyone is familiar or as savvy as some of you around the forum. And if this were about a pissing contest well, I wouldn't even consider running. Please do not feel offended.

Oh you guys... LOL :D Okay, I wasn't going to try mine but since people are having a hard time I figured I would provide a step by step for this contest. :-)

- Click on the hyperlink that Flashorn provided

- When the test center opens up, click on the yellow pyramid that represents the test zone in your area

- Once the test is complete, you will see Your Speed Test Results in the upper left hand side of the screen

- Now, if this were a true image, you could just Right Click on the image and click on the properties. However, this is based on Adobe Flash Player so that option is out. Instead...

- Highlight the entire link with the "Forum Link" section of the Share Your Result section...once highlighted, copy it

- Paste it into a reply window in this forum

- The only thing that is of interest to you is the url with the pasted text. Delete everything else.

- You will now see your test result url. Make sure you put an exclamation point before and after the url

That's it. Once you submit your post, your test result will appear. Here is my result. I am probably one of the few running Sprint Mobile Broadband. My results are, well, as I expected. No where near as fast as cable but somewhat as fast as DSL. I can push upwards of 2MBs/sec download.

My pleasure, Flashorn. :-)

Adama, try the steps I provided and see if this will work for you.

Hey MPH! I didn't realize this would be so hard to understand, but I guess this is the kind of info that someone in the know should make in the form of a document, with explicit explanations. No Pressure Ha! Again thankx.

Flashorn.

PS. Did I ask in a nice enough way?

I am not sure if this is something that should be a document. What we are doing in here is just for fun.

Hi, MPH, I printed your suggestions so I could follow them step by step but I wasn't able to highlight the "Forum Link." So, after trying 4 different times to do this thing, I'll just settle for reporting what the site said about my connection: DOWNLOAD: 1266 kb's | UPLOAD: 266 kb's. Maybe it's because I'm using Vista..... ?:| So that's it for me.

You're so sweet MPH, thanks for trying to help me. !http://forums.pcworld.com/legacyimages/
