Doggie Thread # 2

Most of the regular members are aware that I am a graduate of Texas A&M University, in fact one of the three bars in my previous siggy was about the Aggies. Official notification came out yesterday that the new mascot has been chosen. What kind of mascot is an Aggie? Actually the Aggies are the students, the mascot is a dog. It may be the only University with a dog mascot that does not figure into the schools name (ie: Georga Bulldogs have a bulldog).
So what kind of dog do the Aggies have? A beautiful Collie:

She has yet to get her Official blanket and Rank. Rank? Oh, yes, Reveille VIII is a Cadet Major General. Cadet rank is with Buttons and Diamonds worn on the uniform collar (A&M is one of a handful of schools with a full time Corps of Cadets, in which cadets wear a uniform all during the day when outside their dorm rooms.). One Button - Cadet 2nd Lt, three buttons - Cadet Captain, 1 diamond - Cadet Major, the Corps Commander wears 4 diamonds (only one in U.S.) for the Cadet Brigadier General. Rev outranks them all by wearing 5 Diamonds. Here is the predecessor Reveille VII who was retired this past spring, dressed out for her official duties:

Here is a link to the Aggienetwork page with the announcement. She is a good looking dog.
Here is a link to the Wikipedia article on Texas A&M's Miss Reveille Ma'am as the underclassmen are required to address her. It covers all of the mascots from 1931 to today. When I was there, Reveille II was in her next to last year and was notorious for taking her bathroom breaks on the 50 yard line during halftime at away games. She is a dog, and it is grass, but how she always found the 50 yard line was always a mystery. When the act was done, the A&M students always cheered wildly as the other teams field maintenance crew moved in to clean up.

This is a picture of Miss Suki, my BFF's puppy. This was taken last week, before she got her hair cut.
I'm going to have to take this picture to my PhP X2 and fix her eyes. Later.

Ok, here we go...
Hehe... it's nice to be able to do that. :^0 :p

Yep actually I searched the armory before and there are a lot of people there named Sukie. I also remember there being a Sukie on Avatar (Sokkas girlfriend). I came up with the name around the time when the stuff was happening in Burma. It was a combination of Aung San Suu Kyi in combination of Suki (Japanese for like) since she was going to be a holy priest from the start.

There was a question in the talk about anything thread about whether or not the story of Marley & Me was true or not. The original book is listed under non-fiction and was a best seller in 2005. Here is the cover:
While I cannot attest to how the story was treated in the movie, I can attest the items he talks about with Marley (drool flinging, knocking you down, etc) have a familiarity to them that any owner of a large dog will instantly recognize. In fact while I was attempting to post this, Red kept bumping my elbow with his nose (a trick that seems hard wired into Doberman's at least, and I realized he was hungry, it was kibble time!
After scarfing down his supper, he has now settled down for his post supper nap, which gives me time to finish the post.
I thouroughly enjoyed the book, in real life, Marley lived to be over 13 and suffered the problems of old age and the twisted stomach prevalent in some breeds. Like the Grogan's, my dogs came home with me and are buried in the back.
Athough Red has never been kicked out of an obedience class like Marley, he has been kicked out of a kennel. I used to board my dogs at a kennel that was operated by a husband and wife team. He was retired and she an AKC judge and owner/handler (she never judged her own breeds). He developed this habit of eating the door flaps between the inside run and outside run, plus he got too big to get through the opening easily. (She also turned down Great Danes for the same reason). Willie used to trot around the enclosure carrying the food bown, Red carries the left over bowl from the kitchen into the living room. I give it to him in the kitchen and if I go into the living room, he picks up the bowl and follows.

You have the most entertaining stories, RG. Thanks for sharing them.
He picks up his bowl and carries it with him if you go into the other room? ?:| OMG, what a clever dog he is! :0 :D LOL
How can a dog eat all the stuff that Marley would eat....? linoleum, cardboard boxes, pillows, furniture, wood.... you name it, he ate it. LOL
No wonder he ended up with his stomach all twisted up in a knot, bless his heart.

No real smarts to it, he just grabs the bowl with his teeth and carries it. Anchor Glass cookware does give him a problem though, especially the larger pots. Red does eat paper though. He will go in the trash and get whatever paper is on top, but his favorite is a paper towel. He even has taken paper off table, once the got a dollar bill and had eaten about 1/3 of it before I got it away from him. When I went to the bank, I deposited two checks and the teller asked me if there was anything else she could help me with.
I said, yes, do remember the childhood excuse of "the dog ate my homework", and held up the dollar bill fragment. Since one serial number was intact and I had more than 50% of the bill, she exchanged it for me.
I had fits getting the cover shot of Marley & Me to post, I finally figured out that it was operator error in nameing the image Marley & Me, and it was the ampersand that was giving the trouble.

As I reply to you this yucky morning with the low clouds and threatening rain, Red has had his breakfast and is in his crate, sound asleep. The door is open, it's just that the pad in there is softer than the floor. In fact it's very quiet except for the occasional dog snore (yes they do snore).
Then you have the natural denning instinct of all canines, included the domestic dog. That is why puppies get under the bed and furniture, they feel protected. Red did not like his open wire crate until I put a cover over the top. They like to be under something. The Schnauzer crates are plastic with a solid top, and when something startles them, that's where they head.
The Schnauzers also travel in their crates, for short trips to the vet, I do double up. Red's crate to too big to put in the vehicle so he goes to the Vet loose in the vehicle usually sitting right behind me.
