Hello, its been a long time since I have asked for help :8} but ran into a recent problem. The expansion for a game I play recently came out this week and now all of the sudden I am getting a "runtime error"and I get booted to the desk top. I don't remember the exact wording of the error but it was something about "runtime error application requested XXXXXX amt of memory but avaliable memory is only XXXXX, then I get a 2nd box that pops up and tells me the filer name of the application which is the game file for the game I am playing, then once I click ok on the error it drops me to desk top. I then can log right back into the game but then it happens again a few min later.

I read on the EQ2 forums that others are having this same problem and some said it was only happening with the new part of the game. Some said they had to lower thier graphics settings or change thier card to a X1 or X2 for AGP. I tried to lower my settings on the game which I normally run at max settings ( and have always run at max settings whith no problems at all with game until this expansion came out). I tried to lower my settings but still got same error.

I know I have more than enough memory (system memory and VC memory)

Currently I am running:

CPU--Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2X 2.66GHz/wMB L2 cache

Asus P5N-E SLI 650i

3GIG Corsair XMS2 (three 1 gig chips)

WD Raptor WD1500AFD 150GB HD

Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB

OS Windows XP Home

1000WaTT PS

So as you can see I have more than enough PC to run this game and then some, and I have been running this game fun until thsi expansion came out.

Any ideas what I should do or what I can try??

Arthur - did you mean to say THREE 1GB modules?

These machines run best when the memory modules are installed in PAIRS.

Considering the economics, it would probably best for you to purchase and install a fourth matching 1GB module. This will take your available memory to 3.25 or so with the 32bit OS (the max it will recognize out of the 4GB max it can address).

This may or maynot solve the problem with the extensions, but without the exact error message that is sent it is one step.

Yes Sorry thats what I meant....:8}

The reason I never went with 4 GIG was because some folks where telling me that there was no point and that it could even make Windows possible run slower.

I doubt the memory has anything to do with it becaus the game has run fine with the 3Gig for months and months now at max settings.

I don't remember the exact error message (not at home to see it right now) but basically it was saying that the game was asking for more memory than whats available. when I get home I will log onto the game so i can get the exact wording of the error message.

yea gonna try that when I get home today. Will let yall know how it all turns out

ok here is the exact message:

Says " Critical Error application ran out of memory when requesting 1048592 bytes (limit: 2048MB). Then when you click ok I get another error box that says " Microsoft Visual C Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program:cprogram filessonyeveryquestIIeverquest2.exe.

This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusal way...please contact the applications support team for more info"

Have not tried to re-install the game yet hopeing that one of yall can figure something out or that SOE tec support (what a joke SOE tec lol) because the game is huge and the udpate time takes for ever so want to try everything else before I do that.

Hi Arther. These error messages are application specific. I think it may be best, even though it is time-consuming, to uninstall and then reinstall the game.

Yea I agree and I have done exactly that however I have been updating the game for the last several hours because SOE sucks....the update system the use sucks realy bad....it either takes for ever or it cxl the down load for no reason which I have to keep restarting over and over. Its just amazing that some one as big a Sony has this kind of problem.

This may be a stretch but is there a CD that they offer that has all the updates, patches, etc. within it?

Yes I have the latest expansion that just came out this week and it does have most of the udpates on it...however as with all expansions they have released new updates since the launch...and it does not help when for some reason their updater software keep cxl'ding the download.

I did finally get everything updated and jumped on the game..at 1st things seem to be find but then BAM just like that I went down with the same error. I have been searching on the SOE tec forums and there are lots of other folks posting the same exact problem. From what I have been reading this problem has been around for @ a yr and SOE knows about it but either does not know how to fix it or does not want to fix it.

There was one person who said they found a solution to the problem. He said to use CSF cleaner ( think thats what it was called) per this person what this free program does it allow you to go in and chance some EQ2 .exe file to allow more then 2gig of memory he used the sysmbel <2gig. Thats suppose to take care of the problem from what I understand cause the game is built to only allow your pc to use 2gig or less towards the game.

When I get home I guess I will try my luck with SOE tec support over the phone /sigh

Some folks have said they talked to SOE tec support over the phone and after @ a hour or so they fixed the problem. May I tell you what the things I go through just to play a game.

Maybe I should think about actually buying a game for that PS3 sitting in my living room ;-)
