It's my pleasure. :-) Anything I can do to help you resolve your problem is the least I can do.
When I say "...in real time..." that means total coverage all day, every day. I leave my computer on all the time. I last time I restarted my computer was when I installed an application, about a week ago. Right now, Zone Alarm Pro is my real-time firewall and Anti-Spyware protection and AVG Anti-Virus is my real-time anti-virus protection. Both applications constantly scan for the respective viral applications. Every night, each run their respective scans.
Every Saturday morning, I run the full gambit of all my security applications, all ten of them. This weekly process takes about three hours but since I do it each week, I never have more than a cookie or two to remove.

To join in - I have one machine that came with XP Media Center Edition and Norton Internet Security. It was a major headache, but I got a 15 month free subscription with the machine. I have been a former Norton Anti-Virus user and was pleased except with the annual fee. NIS was a major pain and when I installed the HP provided upgrade to Vista I left NIS behind. The subscription will be good until February, but it has been off my machine since May.
I use Webroot's Spysweeper on my two XP machines because it's paid for for a few more months, and it works. On my newer Vista machines I use Superantispyware based on the recommendation of another forum member and have had no problems. Vista has Windows Defender which halts the startup of Superantispyware until I click OK and then SAS runs. (This is not the UAC as the message specifically states Windows Defender). I am also running Avast instead of AVG Free for Anti-virus on my newest two machines.
I am not running a firewall other than the Windows firewall as all my machines are behind a router with a hardware firewall. I am considering one for my laptops before I use one anywhere else. Most of the places I use it outside the house, I turn off the wireless, as I don't need it.
