I currently use Webroot's Spy Sweeper and Sunbelt's CounterSpy Version 2. I have also at one time or another used Super Anti-Spyware Pro, Trend Micro, Ad-Aware SE Free Edition and Plus, also Spy Ware Terminator, Spybot-Search & Destroy, Spyware Blaster, Tennebril SpyCatcher and Ashampoo 2.0.and not forgetting Spyware Doctor or AVG Spyware. Some apps have superior detection and disinfection, and some have quicker scan capabilities. Some are resource intensive others have a lighter footprint. Some have improved over the years and some haven't. As everyone can appreciate keeping your P.C. clean is time and labour intensive. Keep it simple no more than two anti-spyware apps, a robust anti-virus app.and a super two way firewall should do the trick. I use Zone Alarm's firewall and Anti-Virus which they license from Kaspersky. There's a lot of choice, listen to yourself and stay focused. Don't be influenced by marketing claims. Experiment! Have Fun! Sincerely...RonBop.

Hi, RonBop. I am very happy with Spy Sweeper and with Trend Micro AntiVirus. I run the Spy Sweeper once a week, and the Micro AV every 2 weeks.

And then of course, there's my Windows Defender. I run a quick scan once a week and a full scan once a month. That about covers it for me.

Well, both Spyware Doctor and Spy Sweeper are good, I have tried them.
Now I also use Kaspersky to remove virus and trojan in other PC, I think it's thorough.

I use Trend Micro Antivirus (which I am considering deleting), and I use Webroot Spysweeper (which is great).
I should, however, download something 3rd party for a firewall... I don't trust Microsoft's software.

I had earlier installed defender on my xp machine , the application always prompted for update but never updated ,got frustrated and removed it.
the firste thing i did on my vista was to disable defender. :-)
another such appl. is microsoft's live one care , that is worse than defender.u cant customize it, it will perform its so called optimization on a scheduled time and u cant stop it , only delay it.And they are giving a trial of this crap, who will buy this. not me.

Antivirus
I am currently using AntVir Classic. It's a great program. Another one I could recommend is Avast. I used to use this one as well but was a little bothered by the fact that I could not schedule scans with the free version.
Firewall
In addition to my router, I am using Comodo Pro (2.4 version - people seem to be having issues with the brand new 3.0) which does a great job. Much less annoying now that I have granted all the permissions that I needed to. I used ZoneAlarm previously but did not like it. The interface was OK but the program did not play nice with my router. I could not access my router's web page even when I disabled the program. I had to completey remove it.

Spyware
I run two active programs - Spyware Terminator and Spyware Doctor (For those of you who downloaded the 'scan but can't remove' version, go to their web site at www.pctools.com. There, pick Spyware Doctor and go to the bottom of the page. The Google Pack let's you download the 5.1 starter version that scans and cleans). I also scan once a week using Ad-Aware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy.

Avast!, AVG 7.5, and AntiVir.

For Spyware: Zone Alarm's built in spyware sweeper and Windows Defender.
