hi there,

i have just put together a new system which i believe is half decent, well i hope so anyway. my specs are

-- intel core 2 duo E6850 (fsb: 1333Mhz)

--corsair 2GB DDR3 1066Mhz

--sparkle 8800GTX 768MB GDDR3 PCI-E

--asus p5k3-deluxe motherboard

--some hybrid digital tv tuner gaming keyboard and mouse speakers blah...

--TT 750W toughpower

--water cooling system in TT case

--32" LG LCD 5ms monitor

--XP pro

thats all good but my problem is with the HDD's. i have a seagate 500GB sata2 and a 750GB seagate sata2. they are brand new and i have hard drives 3 years old running with less noise than these. im not sure if this is normal or not but they dont sound healthy. also with a system of that power it is running fairly slow. i read that the jumpers dont really matter that much but i took them out anyways. if there are any known issues with these drives or ye just any info would be good.

they make like a loud ticking/clicking noise only when i open a program or do anything with them .. otherwise very quiet

kind regards :D

Hi Halfnewb and welcome to PCWorld. :-)

My first question to you is how many fans do you have inside your computer?

Well, five fans should be more than sufficient. I have two more questions for you:

- Are you sure these hard drives are brand new or just new-to-you ?

- Have you verified that the SATA connectors are secured and not crinkled?

yes i bought them from a supplier i have an abn number and buy parts direct .. not from a retail store .. so im pretty sure they are new .. i have bought alot of parts from these people including hard drives .. but these are the first ones to be making any kind of noise like this .. all the connectors are secured and are not crinkled .. maybe they are just faulty ? or damaged on transport

That is my assumption as well. If you have a working relationship with this vendor, I would see no reason why an even exchange wouldn't be very simple.
