Hello everyone.
I want to ditch my current browser (IE 6) and try out Mozilla Firefox v2.0. This may sound like an obvious question, but I'm asking just to be sure. When I click "download" for Firefox, I assume that I need to click "Run", correct? And once Firefox is completely installed, do I just delete IE 6?
Thanks.

Hi Viper and welcome to PCWorld. :-)
Yes, installing Mozilla Firefox is just like installing any other application:
- Download the .exe (executable) file from the vendor
- Click (or double click) the file to install the application
- Run the application by clicking (or doubling clicking) on the newly created icon
I would not uninstall Internet Explorer 6, or any version of Internet Explorer. You will find that you need this browser to successffully update your computer when monthly Windows Updates are released. A workaround would be to install the Internet Explorer add-on for Mozilla Firefox, which can be downloaded by clicking this link. This will enable Mozilla Firefox to load web pages as if it were Internet Explorer.

You can click on "run" if you want, but I almost without fail click on "save" and save the file to a location in my download folder. I then also have sub-folders under download for the program name. I do this in case I want to re-install, I don't have to download again. I am on satellite, and on a limitation of the amount of downloads in a 24 hour period.
You may want to also download IE7 to replace IE6. I run both, and like both. Both have tabbed browsing, and Firefox looks to be a bit faster, but I am still limited by download speed (700Kbps). I prefer IE7 for some applications, when downloading PDF bank statements, IE opens Adobe Reader to open the file, Firefox opens the document in a new tab within the browser. Add to the fact that if you are going to the Microsoft website, only IE works. I have both on all my machines, except for the experimental installation of Ubuntu on one drive on a multi-boot machine, since Ubuntu does not support IE.
BTW - my download folder is currently at 3.6 Gigabytes, so you can see I have been saving download for some time.

Yes, tabs are a great item, I currently have three open in Firefox in responding. I would also recommend you consider replacing IE6 with IE7. There are certain situations where you will want IE (Microsoft website and if you need to configure certain routers) and IE7 has the tabs. The set up of a new tab in IE7 is actually easier than Firefox (you just click on the stub tab and the new tabbed window opens).
