Okay, so I gave Atari an email, and they sent me a product key the next day! They didn't even ask any questions; I just said, "I have OEM," and they said, "Here you go!" So now I'm registered, and everything is great. The game is playing fine now, and it hasn't crashed yet. I did download the Djiin tools, but I haven't installed them yet. I too noticed the two different options when starting a new game. I don't know what the additional adventures are about, but I'll try them after I beat the game (who knows how long that will take?)

I remember the first time I played the game, I hated the camera views with a passion. I still don't like them, but I'm getting used to it. The game is still fun. Not amazing or anything, but fun. I just wish there was a real incentive to use weapons other than your sword.

Hi kilme, You can go into options and change the camera view from High Isometric to low isometric or even to over the shoulder ( pretty near first person). I reposted the opening in this thread as it was the best quality one I've found. I was going to post another long sequence that would really give you a feel for the game ( it was a side quest). Fortunately, I watched it first as it was obviously from the uncensored version, I think, as I don't remember what it looked like when I was at that point. Anyway, I decided it probably wouldn't be a good idea. It is on youtube under The Witcher Videos entitled "Hunt for the Vampire". coastie

Yeah, I know about the 3 views, but I don't like any of them. :_| I use the low-isometric though.

Hi, That's the view I've been using. High is too high and over the shoulder feels too restrictive to me. Low-Isometric seems to be the best fit, if not the best of views. You should check out that video I told you about. As I said, I felt it would be prudent not to include it on this thread as we do have some younger members. coastie

When I was still among the actively employed, we couldn't get on the internet. Strictly an inhouse network, although I suspect it was probably a different story up in the Corporate Offices. I only had three software apps installed as I recall. Oracle, Merlin. and a WP. I primarily used Merlin, which was an inventory control app. Oracle was a Corporate app. that I don't ever remember using. I used the WP on rare occasions, as I found I could get a better response by picking up the phone and just calling over there Posted Image . It really didn't matter that I couldn't access the internet anyway, as I was too busy and didn't have any down time in which I could. There were times when I was late for a meeting, because I didn't check my e-mails, so didn't know about it until I did. I had a girl working in the office supposedly keeping up with that stuff, but usually at the end of the day, there would be a bunch of material yet to be charged out, and a load unopened e-mails. I found out she was going through some rather difficult times with her estranged Husband. I didn't want to let her go as it would have been some time before I got authorization from Corporate to fill the position anyway. Long story short, I continued to run around with no internet access and mostly uninformed about upcoming meetings and such, until she got her problems resolved. Afterwards, she really did an outstanding job, and made my job somewhat less hectic, and I was able to focus on production and get to meetings on time. coastie

Well, I just finished this thing, including the little expansion that showed up along the way. I obviously missed some stuff, as late in the game, there was a mention of some really good armor ( I didn't get it ). The expansion wasn't much, and I'd recommend playing that ahead of the main game, to get a feel for the real deal. I won't give away any spoilers, but in the final battle, make sure you have potions of all or most descriptions. They will come in handy. I don't know how others have played it or are playing it but I took a neutral stance this go round, rather than side with the Humans or non-humans. The game is definately different than any other RPG I've played and I will definately be playing it again. For those who are playing, ENJOY. Coastie65

Hi Coastie. Just thought I'd warn anyone thinking of downloading this patch (or patches). The files are huge, and there's no guarantee that the patches will work on your system (translates to "exceptionally buggy"). Many people are having problems installing the patch, and others are having problems with the game afterward if they do manage to install it. It seems that it works best with Vista (amazingly), and not so well on XP. The Witcher forums are full of unhappy campers who are having major problems with this update, and there are no good answers for them so far. What's there ranges from "You probably have a bad game disk", "Get the latest firmware update for your DVD drive", or "Completely uninstall the game, and reinstall in safe mode". For anyone thinking of downloading the patch, I'd advise holding off until there's a patch to fix the present patch.

Hi mcb, Thanks for the heads up. I haven't been to the Witcher forums in a while so hadn't heard of this. I had planned to check the feed back at some point. My guess is it has something to do with the fact that it comes from Poland wich uses the PAL format and there may be some problem with the transition to the NTSC format. coastie

I did some snooping around on that. It seems that people are having problems with the download and the installation ends up corrupted. It appears that it is a tricky download and you will have to be careful or risk a corrupted installation (not good). There are some that managed a clean installation and it is running fine for them. coastie

hey coastie . Have you finished the game ?
I was playing this one on my friends PC and played a lot. Currently i m somewhere in between chapter 2. About the game , the graphics are good, the story is interesting but sometimes the games get a bit frustrating with getting in and out of houses and looking for things and other things like that.

I wont be buying this one but will finish this off on my friends PC only as i need to save some money for other titles - far cry2 , CoD-world at war have been released. Both are FPS . Tomb raider underworld and NFS undercover will be released next week. You might be interested in tomb raider. See some trailers , it looks good. :)

Hey piyush, Yeah, I finished it sometime ago. They have come out with an "Enhanced" version with a lot of extras plus a couple of new adventures. The download is free to those who have bought and registered the game, although the download hasn't worked for me and lot of others. I got a PM from their forum last night, which wasn't helpful at all. The download is some 909 Mb and takes me about 10 mins or so, but can never complete the installation as it tells me I need the language pack. I download the language pack and the installation stops and tells me I need the 1.4 patch that I was trying to install before. Talk about frustrating. One woman said she had downloaded and installed it on the first day when the servers were swamped and had no problem. From what I've seen on the various forums dealing with this game, I think maybe 1 in a 100 have been successful. I have my eye on Lara Croft. I have 6 or 7 games now for the PS3 and am stuck in all of them. :( Oh well, I guess that is gaming, although I tend to lose interest after awhile when I can't move. coastie

Hey piyush, Glad to see you are enjoying the game. It has been awhile since I completed it and only vaguely remember the Kikimore Queen. One, you do need to use the Silver sword . You also need to carefully clear any other things that are around so that she is all you have to battle. When it is just you and her, use the Strong Style against her. You can also throw a shot of igni at her as well. Try several of those things if necessary, and don't forget to duck :D . You can use Group style to take out the other things at the beginning as i believe there are a number of Kikimores to be dealt with. Usually in those situations, they don't make it easy as you have to toggle between different styles in a lot of cases. Some of the monsters will require the fast style and others the strong style ( which is also slower ).

i checked a few youtube videos on this , there are a few pillars to be broken with the Aard sign in this battle and yes there are tonnes of kikimore here. Switching styles is fine , i use hotkeys for this - Z,X,C for strong, fast and group.
I got the 5000 orens jacket for geralt that you were talking about earlier, played a lot of poker for that , lol and sold a lot of expensive rings.

Hey piyush, Yeah, that's how I got that jacket as well. Maybe I should have set up some hot keys and things would have been a tad easier. Oh Well, next Time. I ended buying the Enhanced Version as i couldn't get the "FREE" download.

Some wishes should be left as wishes only. lol

This year end was a slight heavy on my pocket money with a new PSU and a 500gig HDD and i decided to get a slightly expensive PSU this time as the earlier one didnt work well. Plus I recently got Far cry 2 and Call of duty 5 , crysis warhead , all FPS games. I cant even think of getting anything else atleast for next 2 months.

btw - i m planning a memory upgrade , maybe in March 2009 - will be adding 2 more 1 gig sticks to this.

:D Yeah, I'd say it was a bit heavy on the pocketbook. I bought two games, Tomb Raider: Underworld and Rise of the Argonauts. I got stuck in Tomb Raider, because of a bug in the game that wouldn't let me execute a critcal move, so couldn't go any further. Eidos wasn't any help. Told me to send the game back with $20 USD ( after I had already paid $60 USD for the thing ) and they would send me a new one. :p I did buy a refurbished PS2 for $60 USD. It is the original PS2 not the slimline model. I had gotten a gift card for $50 USD for that store, so decided to replace my broken one and now I can finish some games i had started on that.
