I have looked all over the internet to try to find out why my computer sometimes just shuts down. I get a screen that says it did this to protect my computer. It also has this stop: oxoooooo8E (OXCoooooo5,0XBF837895, 0XEBFCOA6C,0Xoooooooo

win32K.sys-addressBF837895base at BF800000,date stamp45Fol3F6

I have tried to look this up but fail to understand what the heck it means. Can someone out there please tell me in plain english what's wrong here. It does this frequently and it's a pain. Computer is 4yrs old

I know one of you guys out there can help, you have been lifesavers in the past.

Many Thanks to you all,

Sandi

Hi SandiGram. Okay, well, this specific error message can be associated with several different things. If you click on this hyperlink, you will see some of the examples of how you could get this error message. From what I have learned from experience, this error message is specific to either what you were doing immediately preceding this stop error message or what hardware you have installed.

So, I have a few questions for you:

- Who is the manufacturer of your computer and what is the model number?

- Have you installed any hardware recently?

- What exactly were you doing when you got this stop error message?

- How many times have you seen this stop error message?

- When was the first time you noticed this stop error message?

- What Operating System do you have?

- What security application(s) do you have and what was the result of the latest scan(s)?

The first thing I would want to check is the computer's cooling fans and dust buildup. If you have a seperate graphics card, it especially needs to be checked for heat buildup problems.

:D Hi Sandi :

That is the Most SPECIFIC STOP Error Message I have ever seen; its Meaning to pinpoint the exact

Cause of your problem is best interpreted by experienced, trained, certified, Volunteer "Microsoft

Most Valuable Professional(s)" that can be found on the Support Forums at aumha.net/ . In the

"Error Messages" portion of their Site, they give a link to

[http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/ms794023.aspx] . Not much, if anything, for the general public

to understand. Most likely they know what the Info in the parenthesis means !?

P.S. We have a similar eMachines computer; did you ever "upgrade" the Operating System to either

Win XP SP1 or Win XP SP2 ? Info from the emachines Site indicates there is an "Updated" nVidia

MCP2 Driver Set available; did you ever get it ? See :

under the "Downloads" Section .

:D Hi Sandi :

It MAY be very important to know which SPECIFIC Version of Windows XP you have, since "It" comes

in 3 different "sub-versions", namely Win XP, Win XP SP1, and Win XP SP2 ; you can find that Info by

clicking "System" in your "Control Panel" .

To answer your question, technically yes. You can overload a computer to a point that it fails. However, the majority of computers can be upgraded to avoid any potential failures.

Since this has been going on for months, a System Restore is out of the question.

I have some more questions for you:

- Now, you didn't answer the second half of my security question. What were the results of the latest scans? Any viruses removed or things of that nature.

- Does this error message only occur when you close your browser?

- What browser(s) do you use?

- As Art209 suggested, have you opened your computer and used compressed air to blow the dust out?

Hi M, my virus scans are always good, not even anything to remove or fix. I'm not closing the browser I'm on it looking at something. It's internet explorer, and I'm gonna try the air thing. I's just very annoying to be looking something up and bang dead, have to start all over. But I just might be overloading the cpu, and the fix for that??????????

Okay, I do not believe you are overloading your computer. Here are some suggestions:

- Get a can of compressed air, open your case, and give the inside of your case a good cleaning. Over time, dust builds up inside your computer and can cause significant issues, up to and including shut downs.

- If you haven't already, download Internet Explorer 7 from Microsoft. You can get it by clicking here.

- Download another browser. One of the more popular browsers is Mozilla Firefox 2 which can be downloaded by clicking here.

- List your hard drive capacity: Open My Computer, Right Click on your C: drive, and post Used Space, Free Space, and Capacity.

:D Hi Sandi :

The Info "XP Home Edition version 2002, service pack 2" is what I was looking for ; I know your

computer did NOT come with that Operating System, but an earlier One called XP SP1

( Service Pack 1) ; do you remember "Upgrading" your computer in the Past to your current

Oerating System !? If yes, do you remember if the STOP Error Message you are getting occurred

right after doing so ?

Your computer originally came with Internet Explorer Version 6 ( IE 6 ); do you remember IF you

have put the latest Version, called Internet Explorer Version 7 ( IE 7 ), on your computer ?

Have you EVER changed any hardware on this computer ? IF not, I strongly recommend you get

that "Updated Driver" I mentioned earlier that is available on the eMachines Site, because the STOP

Error Message you get "Are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade). "

But I did find free space is 93.6gb and capacity is 111gb. I'm going to blow it out today, keep yur fingers crossed. I hace alttle gadget that shows memory usage cpu usage a couple other things, anyway cpu usage is alot of times at %100 and I'm not doing anything but looking something up on the internet, no other windows open or anything. I tried Firefox and didn't much like it. Do you think it's better?

Hi SandiGram. Okay, for your particular situation, there are several things that could cause a system shutdown:

- accumulated dust inside the computer

- lack of memory

- hardware incompatibility

- viral infection

Right now, it could be one of the above or a combination of all of them. Since you indicate that you CPU Usage is hovering around the 100% mark, I would not be surprised if there is something in your system your current security may have missed. However, first thing first. I hope you have some good news after you blow the dust out of your computer.

If not, we can look at the drivers for the optical drive (DVD drive). Since you installed another DVD player, it would be more effective to go directly to the manufacturer of the DVD drive to get the latest drivers. What is the model number of the DVD drive?

Now, your eMachine came pre-installed with 512MBs of memory. That should be sufficient for basic use but you may want to consider increasing it to at least 1GB of memory. The link below are the memory chips that are compatible with your computer and that will bring your total memory to 1GB.

:D Hi Sandi :

To get the "Updated" eMachines "Driver" on your computer, go to :

www.emachines.com/support/product_support.html?cat=Desktops&subcat=T-Series&model=T2825 ;

Then click on "Downloads"; then you should see the Item "Chipset" and under that

"Download ( 25.30 MB ) "; click on "Download....." and the process should start . It might take quite

a while, based on what type of internet connection you have . I clicked on that "Download ( 25.30 MB ) "

a little over 3 years ago and suffered no adverse consequences .

:D Hi Sandi :

That 100% CPU Usage MAY be cause by the presence

of your Norton Antivirus program !? Norton is generally known as a "Bloatware" program, and none

of the "Regular" Helpers on this Forum recommend it . There is a Thread that has 97 Posts and has

been viewed over 269,000 times about Norton and its CPU Usage at

discuss.pcmag.com/forums/thread/1004345856.aspx ; very interesting reading !?

Good morning, well I went to the website for that chipset, downloaded and it didn't install right or something. I have blown all the dust out, not much, I have also heard about Norton being a memory hog, maybe I will uninstall and put avg on and see if it helps. But like mphenterprises said I might need more ram. This is getting really too technical for me, if it gets much worse, I'm just going to reformat, that will certainly get rid of any bugs. I hate to go through that again (yes I did it before) but I will. Will let you know what happens.

Thanks so much

Sandi

Good morning to you also, just sent Spiritwind a message. Why would I suddenly need more ram when things have been working ok? And what other reason for the cpu to run 100% I know now to justt wait for it to catch up before clicking anymore and sometimes it takes a few minutes for the cpu to get back down to a reasonable number. Read my post to Spiritwind and you will know my future plans. I will keep you posted with the progress.

Thanks for all the help

Hi SandiGram. It's not that you suddenly need more memory. It's about covering all of your bases. If I am not mistaken, your computer came with 512MBs of memory. If your computer usage pushes the limit of that existing memory, it would be to your best interest to upgrade the memory. Remember when you asked about overloading the computer? Well, one of the most crucial components to allow your computer to run effectively is the memory.

Now, Spirit and I have provided you with several options. You dusted out the computer and that did not work. The next most feasible option, without spending money, is to verify that you have the latest drivers for your DVD drive. Previously I asked for the model number of your new DVD burner. Please provide that so we can try to find the appropriate drivers.

The next option would be to do a more thorough virus scan. This is Spirit's area of expertise. As he pointed out, if Norton is your only security, this could be the significant cause of your CPU Usage spikes. I will defer to him for any further advice in relation to security.

The final option would be to increase the memory. You stated that this has happened to you once already. If all things remained constant, I would look to this as a main reason your system shuts off and even gives you the blue screen.

I would say that if after all this you still cannot shake this situation, then yes, a reinstall may be in order.
