Thanks for the feedback about your GPU

Don't get me worng EQ2 runs great BUT I do from time to time notice a wave like lag kinda like slow motion of sorts. I ran FRAPS on EQ2 and noticed in several zones I am getting FPS in the teens and some times it even drops into the single numbers. This is what mainly worries me why would I be getting such crappy FPS with the set up I have.

And yes I did DL the Crysis demo and maxed it out (as far as dx9 goes) and it ran great with no problems, I guess I could try and play the demo again and run FRAPS to see what I get.

And again that temp I am seeing for my GPU is with OUT even playing a game will try to remember to check it while I am playing to see if it really changes.

Internet Latency,.........does it get worse when all the players are close to you,.... or, .....are all crowded up together? ?

When playing an online game, it's not only your ping,........but everyone else's too,.........in other words,.....if there is someone, on the same server as you, with a high ping, ....it WILL DEFINATELY AFFECT YOU AS WELL ! ! ! , and the closer they are to you ,....the more pronounced the ill effects

Yes normally when I am seeing the low FPS its when I am in a zone and there are a lot of others in the same zone. The servers on EQ2 have always been crappy for the most part just found it interesting that I was getting such low FPS

It has NOTHING to do with your system,........it's internet lag, and server lag.

Although,......you could cool your system down some, and increase it's efficiency, and longeviety.

Hello All, there's too much to read on this topic so I'll just post my thoughts on this issue. Sorry for any duplicate information.

I use a program called FRAPS. Click on the below link for more info and to install the application.

FRAPS

Thanks

Hello folks, wanted to give yall a quick update on this topic. The temp that I posted before for my GPU must be wrong because the temp that shows up 59c has never EVER moved not when I'm browsing the internet, playing a game, when I 1st log pc on, if its been on all day no matter what I am doing or what I am running the temp never moves from 59c.....so I think the Nvida program that lets me acess all the features of my GPU including the core clock speed of my GPU and the temp are either not set up correctly or are just for looks. Because the section that shows my GPU temp has a greyed out slider bar but I can not move it and don't see anyway to use it.
I guess what I should do is D/L a temp monitoring program and run that to actually see what temp my GPU is truely running at. I think some one posted a link to a free one in this post, I will have to look back for it and try it out.

I think I might be having a heat issue with my GPU after some time of playing this EQ2, some times when I play I run two accounts at the same time and everything works fine, but after a few hours I notice I start getting a bit more lag than normal. Not a 100% sure this is a heating issue but think it might be because EQ2 does push systems and with me running two accounts at the same time I am pushing my system even that much more. Does any one have any good suggestions on a better cooling method for my 8800 GTX 768MB card......don't want to mess with any pain in the arse water cooling maybe something more along the lines of a large heat sink??? Any suggestions??

Thanks sorry for the long reply and the late reply been busy as heck the past few weeks.

Update: Ok I must be doing something wrong I am trying to attach a screen shot of speed fan so yall can see the temps everything is showing up as but can't figure out how to insert it. I click on insert image but it does not see my saved file for some reason. I saved it as a word doc and even a note pad but does not see either one??? What am I doing wrong??

!SppedFan.bmp!
Ok here is a screen shot of the program speed fan and as you can tell some of the readings really bother me. I am not a 100 % sure how to read into all this.

Don't know what Temp1,2,3 are suppose to be referencing, I dont know what the 2nd Temp1 is suppose to be refering to, I don't know what exactly Core0, and 1 and just plain Core are suppose to be referring to either but as you can see "CORE" showes 147F which is really high. Is "CORE" talking about my GPU or my CPU? Why are there 3 showings for Core (CORE, CORE 0 and CORE 1 )

Why does it only show Fan1 with any RPM'S and fan2,3,4 with out any RPM's I know there are several fans on my set up?

CPU usage never gets all that high even when I am playing a game like EQ2 but the "CORE" temp will shoot up to 160F which from what I know is REALLY high even though the game runs rock solid unless I am running two acocunts at the same time then after some time playing I do start to get some glitchy lag (not sure if that has to do with my PC/Temps or just the sever I am playing on)?

Temp 1 will go up to @ 112 or so when I do load a game up and never really goes much past that from what I have noticed, again not sure what Temp 1 is reading.

Have no idea what Ambient is either but some times that will get a little higher.

Can any one help me figure out all these readings and why does "CORE" show such a high temp?

Thanks again

Ok not exactuly sure why I keep adding and updateing this post seeing how I have yet to get a response from any one but one last update from what I have learned so far.

From what I can tell Core 1 and Core 2 are my CPU temps and CORE is my GPU temp-----when running my game EQ2 Core 1 and Core two will hit around 50c and CORE will hit around 70C so I am guessing I am having a heating issue of some sort. Who knows maybe I have always had a heating issue and just never known it because I never really watched it. I have a temp display on my case its self which is suppose to be showing me my CPU temp and it never really moves past 38 or 39c but the program is showing 50c when playing the game so not sure why the diffrence.

I have started to look into a VGA cooler for my GPU and will look into something for my CPU as well with the hopes that will help bring down these temps.

Well it arranges from the make of cpu, mother board, but i think the last time i checked was that the cpu could run up to 70'c, but i just want to check are your fans placed the right way around, as if the fan is not then the cirulation of air is not right and it can create a heat problem, i am creating a document that helps people with cleaning and the fans of computers. But i don't know much about gpu but i think that does sound a bit high?

Thanks for the feed back, I am not as worried about my CPU per say seeing how the hottest I seen either core get to so far was 50C it more my GPU that worries me because its hitting 70C at times. I don't understand why my case display shows a CPU temp of @ 38C while speed fan shows a temp of 48 or 50c.

As far as the fans go I assume they are placed correctly I had the pc built by Ibuypower, I still find it funny because speed fan only shows one fan running but I know there are at least 3 fans in my case....so I need to check into that.

So far I haven't had any luck finding a good VGA cooler for my 8800 GTX the only one I found so far that seemed to be really good was a Thermaltake one made for the 8800 but after reading some reviews I doubt I will get it. It seems to work great at lowering the GPU temp but because the way it was made it blows all the hot air right back into your case so it raised the inside temp of your case by @ 10c on average under heavy load so to me that over showds the reduction in GPU temp.

For those that might care about the results of my search for answers about my GPU's temp.....the following response is what I have received.

From the nVidia Support site:
Thank you for contacting NVIDIA Customer Care.
I understand from your email that you want to know the safe operating temperature of the Geforce 8800 GTX graphics card.
Please be informed that the safe operating temperature of the Geforce 8800 GTX graphics card is 70 to 85 degree centigrade. However, the GPU has been tested up to 145C core temperature.
Please feel free to contact us, if you have any further questions.

so it appears that my GPU is running just like it should, now I have still ordered TMD ND5 VAG Cooler of my card cause in my mind it never hurts to run a little cooler that way you have more room to go up :-)

I wanted to fine tune my gaming PC for max performance. I still have room to improve on performance but have started to move in the right direction.

By useing certain tools like PC PIT SHOP, SPEED FAN ect...I have been able to track my systems performance.

I have also learned more about my own hardware in regards to proper temps and am working towards safe guarding my system for the future.

Thanks to all that helped out.
