Not like the worst computer I've ever had The Emachine T2958 this computer has been a lemon ever since I purchased it from Bestbuy. What is your opinion of Bestbuy and the Geeksquad? I do like Windows Vista.

For laptop reliability I recommend the Toshiba Satellite series of laptops.
You can get a refurbished one if a new one is too expensive for you.
A desktop costs less that a laptop, but the laptop gives portability.

Laptops are more popular these days. They're certainly more convenient.

But they come at a price. For the same amount of money, you can get much more power with a desktop. And the savings don't stop after you buy it. Desktops are less likely to be damaged in an accident, and much cheaper to fix. For instance, if your desktop's keyboard stops working, you can go to any computer store, buy a replacement for $15, take it home and plug it in. With a laptop, it's several days in the shop and a couple hundred dollars.

Desktops are also cheaper to upgrade, as they're made of standard parts. Laptop parts are often model-specific.

Ergonomics are another issue. It's not healthy to have the keyboard and monitor so close. Of course, you can get around this with an external keyboard.

I agree with Lincoln.
I would like a laptop, but when I get money I put it into upgrading my desktop instead.
BUT I am a gamer, and a power user, so my needs call for more than what Hattie wants.

The next thing I want to get is a 500 GB hard dive, but Im waiting for the price to drop.

ps--

I should I have mentioned in my last post that for many people (myself included), the convenience of having a computer you can take with you makes the problems of owning a laptop worthwhile.

How far do the prices need to drop? Currently, 500 GB 7200 RPM SATA (3.0 Gb/s) drives can be had for about $100, including shipping.
