Hi John L Jacobi, what i read in your story above doesnt make any sense watso ever. Its filled with talks about your own perosnal choices, in a exaggerated way. seems like you dont have much knowledge about vista, or its updates or a good configuration computer. yes i honestly agree, Windows Vista is not GOOD enough for a normal user or a non-supported hardware. Im using Windows vista on my new machine, and its a perfect platform. if you would like to know more, u can mail me. but i guess, its not a good idea impossing your own dissatisafctions on behalf of every users. its a matter of shame that PC world doesnt go through their reviews or stories before publishing them in frontpage. Not evry websites can meet the standards of professional elegance, pc world belongs to one i assume.

I was very surprised at your reason for going back to XP. In particular, you can create any number of contact folders in Outlook and add them to your Outlook address book. You can also mimic Outlook Express identities by setting up multiple accounts with their own pst files. The pst files are a lot easier to backup and are portable between XP and Vista - I've done it several times.
My early experience with Vista last winter was disappointing and I switched back to XP in April. I decided to give Vista another try after a recent hardware shuffle because I didn't want to go through the hassle of getting XP reactivated on the new motherboard. This time, the hardware is designed for Vista, the drivers are more mature and Microsoft has had time to fix a lot of the early problems. Vista now feels faster than XP and I haven't had any stability issues.

I say good bye to VISTA it is the current Windows ME, every day errors with program encountered a problem and needs to close. I have a 3 yr old XP machine with 512 that runs circles around this new 2 gig VISTA box of ..... its starting to look like a MAC world.

I also dumped vista on my latest machine. However, I decided to load Ubuntu 7.10 instead of going completely backwards with XP. I have been using Linux exclusively for the past few months. There isn't one machine in my home with Windows on it. Everything just works in Ubuntu and is completely free. It's pretty sad that an open source program can spank a company such as Microsoft. I look forward to the day when Linux becomes more mainstream. If my kids can use it then anyone can. In conclusion, just say no to Windows!!!

What idiocy. Outlook does or outdoes everything the writer says it doesn't do or does insufficiently. Windows mail isn't meant to be a top-shelf mail program, and outlook express certainly has its flaws. To go back to the Fisher-Price look of XP over these silly complaints smacks of an extremely unsophisticated and unimaginative user. Doesn't sound like the kind of writer a top pc website ought to publish. The lightning fast search feature of Outlook 2007 alone is worth loving Vista/Outlook 2007 for, especially when it's combined into the Start button "command line" as it is.
Honestly, watching these web sites try to cash in on consumer stupidity like this current Microsoft-bashing trend just seems like either blatant stupidity or lack of purpose. Vista may well be the last time Microsoft can "force" a major change in the pc landscape on the public, but it's really a blessing, not a problem.

Come on guy! Microsoft deserves every bit of bashing it gets! Microsoft has always failed to deliver a product not riddled with holes and flaws in it's applications. On top of that they want you top dollar for their products which are proven to have numerous security flaws. Not to mention compatibility issues with hardware and other third party applications. It's no wonder Linux rules the Network Domain and is the choice for power users. Be a rebel and try something different. The revolution has begun!!!

Wow. I'm sort of doing the same thing - I'm dual booting rather than dumping Vista altogether. I like some things about Vista, but there are a ton of annoyances as well. So the like vs dislike factor became 40% (I like Vista), 60% (I wish I had XP). I went the dual boot route since not all the drivers on the notebook are available in XP, so I found third party drivers and hoping this works.

I would hardly call myself a cheerleader for Micro$oft. But geez folks... Vista isn't all that bad. I've been using it at work (the Enterprise version) and sprung for Vista Ultimate for my homebuilt machine at home. Yes, initially there were problems with some things like drivers for nvidia (at work it was the DLA drivers for Roxio Creator). But once those hiccups were fixed. I really haven't had any problems that made me curse having Vista and making me need to run back. Okay not completely true ... at work sometimes we have software that only works on XP, so in that case I just installed a VM and have XP installed on the virtual machine. It works just fine. Especially since it's rare that I need to use those programs very often.
But to read the media and just folks personal whinge about it, I must be the only human on earth that doesn't hate Vista. Do I miss XP? Yeah, sometimes but not enough to put on the hairshirt and cry about sitting in the clutches of shiny Vista.

Great article, and the way you went about trying to get things back into XP sounds exactly like the way I would try to.
And I wish people would stop trying to suggest that it's some media conspiracy to dislike Vista. My brother tried it, hated it. My best friend tried it, had nothing but conflicts. I gave it a try with an open mind and repeatedly got shot down with software, hardware and you name it. It is a big step DOWN from XP on most fronts, that is why so many people are sorry they got it in the first place.
We aren't making things up, Vista is just plain annoying and unintuitive and full of conflicts. Call me when it's not a glorified beta.

This is pure hit-baiting. There is no reason to go back to XP. I never would and I don't believe anyone who has any amount of decent experience would come to that conclusion if they were honest... Jon, you're starting to sound like John Dvorak.
Pretty soon you guys who switch back to XP will be left in the dust and those of us who like to 'progress' won't be looking back.
