Hello,

I am considering purchasing the Sony HDRSR5 camcorder with internal 40gig hard drive and have a couple of questions which each build upon the previous question.

1) After recording in HD and downloading the file to my PC, when burning the HD video to a DVD, will any standard DVD burner burn in HD quality or is a special DVD burner required to burn in true HD?

2) Regarding the actual blank DVD media, are all blank DVD's able to be burnt in both HD and standard quality or is a specific type of blank DVD required to burn in true HD quality?

3) Regarding playback of a burned HD DVD. To view it on my HD-TV, would I need a blue-ray player or a HD player if I wanted to view it in true HD and not standard quality?

Thanks in advance,

David

If you want to watch your HD video on DVD on a HDTV, then you will need to use either a Blue-ray or HD-DVD drive and disks. "Regular" DVD players and DVDs are not capable of doing true HDTV. There are some DVD players that can "upscan" regular DVDs to be a slimutated HD, but it is NOT true HD. I believe they are basically "interpolating" the standard DVD content, but it is not true HD. Otherwise, a standard DVD is only capable of 480p. To get HD (720p or 1080i or 1080p), you will need a Blue-ray or HD-DVD drive and the ability to burn content to Blue-ray or HD-DVD media.
