Hmmm, I don't know about that, Coastie. The instructions that came with my printer says that you gotta have the printer turned off before you insert your cartridges.
I just wish that they were more easily accesible as they're really hard to replace, for me anyway; I had to have my bff replace them for me.

Hi adama, Obviously you haven't been washed away or blown away by the storm(s). In the set up instructions for my printer, you turn on the printer on step 7 and install the cartridges on step 10, so obviously the printer must be on when you install the cartridges. You also only have two cartridges whereas I have six, so there could well be a difference in the way your C4180 and my C5180 is set up. coastie65

Actually the ink cartridges for the C5180, C6180 and PSC 8250 are totally different from those for the C4180. The cartridges for the former besides being six cartridges, they all use the same number HP02 and then the color. They also do not contain the nozzles and normal electrical contacts the other style cartridges do. They are in fact only ink cartridges and insert horizontally rather than vertically. And the book says to have the printer on to change the cartridges.
Below are the instructions for Coastie's and my printers:

Hey adama, like your not so smiley smiley. Reminds me of me on one of my off days. I don't know what that other thing is, looks like a green Yoda. Anyway, you see how lucky you are to only have two cartridges instead of six. I only wish that they came in High Yield models, as I print a lot of photos. It is cheaper, as far as ink goes, than the the LexMark I had and it only had two cartridges, Color and black. coastie65

LOL Hi, Coastie, green Yoda it is!
Before I got my Photosmart Aio, I seriously considered the new Kodak - the one advertised with the cheaper cartridges - so I took one of my pictures to BestBuy because I wanted to see the quality of photos it printed, and the print was absolutely crappiola!
A couple of days later I went to Staples and found the one that I bought, and I love the quality of everything that it prints!
