Has anyone run into this situation? Each time AVG Anti-Virus 7.5 updates its virus database, it prompts me to restart my computer. This has been going on for at least the last two weeks. I know that, yes, sometimes this is a requirement but every update for the last couple weeks is stretching it. Any opinions?

Okay, this may just be a normal procedural thing. I will wait to see how many other people share our experiences.

Hi piyushsingh. Yes, AVG Anti-Spyware is fine for me as well. This may just be a string of "required restarts." I hope that I can get some more feedback to see if this assumption is correct.

I too have noticed this in the past few weeks. It is annoying when there is a critical update and a recomended update and I have to restart twice, just to update AVG. But, I can live with it. After all, There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

Hi Sailorman. Yes, that is definitely true. If this is the biggest issue I have regarding security (and coincidentally it is) then my situation is pretty good. :-) I can live with the daily restarts to update AVG, I guess. I just wanted to make sure I was not the only one.

:D Hi all :
Always best to check on the Support Forums of the Product ; I went to

forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/list.php?1 and saw 1 Post about this "situation" and the implication

there was at least 1 more .

Maybe 1 or more of their "Stickys" address it as well !?

Thanks Spiritl; however, for something like this...that is not quite a "critical" situation in my opinion, I figured I would just ask here first. Thanks for the link, though.

I have it on occasion, but it's generally ONLY when I've installed an actual ((((((program update)))))) The virus definitions themselves don't always require a reboot.

mine updates for me about every time I start my computer, fortunately he doesn't have me restart my computer every time either. You could always try to manually update your system, its possible that something is messing you up so you can't actually update it. Keep an eye on what file package is being updated. Make sure its not the same one again and again.

Hi mph, I'm with aurora on this in that AVG up dates almost daily and I have yet to be required to do a restart. There is a place in XP that you can check to not require restarts after updates, but I forgot where the bloomin thing was. I just saw it the other day but didn't pay any attention to it, except to the fact that it was checked. It may have been in AVG itself for all I can remember. coastie65

Hey MPH! I too have had to restart my PC after Updates from AVG. Three times last week. But today, so far, no restart. So no your not the only one. My guess is that there must have been some program updates, at least a couple of them. That might be over, since they did not ask to restart today.

Same thing happened to me, I had to click on the link under the blog title (every once in awhile you have to treat yourself...) when I went to that link I clicked on "View mphenterprises Profile" link in the upper right hand corner, it brought me to it that way, and even then I couldn't post a comment w/o the same error notice. So yes, I'm going nuts too :-)

lol, yes I agree, I've been seeing that "machine under build" text in his signature for awhile, and now he doesn't want us to see it, what a tease:-)

Your right, tonight could be the night of the "big crash", as I just posted this in the Your Desktop thread:
+By the way, some goofie stuff has been happening tonight in the forum,
like mph blog not loading, system errors, editing pages and spell check
opening up into full screens. So could my picture upload just have been
a glitch?+

Hey Car! I guess we are going off-topic in this thread. I have a real knack for doing that. I simply wanted to get his attention to it. We should give MPH time to sort things out . But this is so much fun. SORRY MPH!!

LOL Hi All. No, this is no trick. :-) I did post my specs but I am not sure what happened. If I click on my blog posting while I am logged in, I can see it with no problem. However, if I click on it when I am not logged in, I get the same error message you do. I am going to try and figure it out. Worst case scenario, I will just create a web page on my own. Shoot, I pay good money to GoDaddy. I might as well use it. LOL

Edit: As of 2:30am, the blog is working and visible in the forum. :-) I hope you all enjoy.

No not at all. Everyone deserves a friendly ribbing every once in a while :D

Going back to Aurora's point on making sure that the same update is not trying to install itself. Well, that has been disproved. I marked down what updates are set to install once the computer is restarted and each night, AVG provides me with the latest updates. Upon Spirit's suggestion, I checked out the main AVG forum. So far, there is no concrete reason as to why AVG updates prompt for a restart every night for the past two weeks.

The only correlation I see may be between AVG and Zone Alarm. There has never been an issue in the past with these two applications playing nice together but I will temporarily disable Zone Alarm tonight and see what happens.
