Actually, Area 51 is a little west and north of Nellis, but an adjunct none the less. coastie

I know coretemp doesnt support your pentium D. But intel has similar utilities that give you full info about all temperatures, voltages, fan speeds, hd temps etc etc.
Search for intel desktop utilities, that will be mobo specific , so do a search and you will get it at the intel download center. For older CPUs , the term is intel active monitor .You can fully trust these two utilities and they are free.

Hey Piyush!!

What do you have besides CoreTemp that doesn't have a trial?

You know, you have to Share with all of us right?

Hey Piyush!!

I was trying to find something that would work with

coastie's CPU. I found the one that you see ,

Since you have a few more, why don't you write them

in my DOC. This way everyone will enjoy your findings.

Don't forget to write your name next to the new monitors.

I don't want to take credit for your hard work and I really

don't mind sharing. Make it place where we can go to

find the stuff we need or want to try out .

OH! don't forget to use Plain Text . LOL!

here's the link - http://www.intel.com...du/download.htm
Select the proper chipset and you will be good to go.

For P4 and other older CPUs - http://www.intel.com...erbd/active.htm
but this also wont work for very old ones like a P3 i have. hehe

I saw your post. I am surprised that they did not ask for any registration during the install process. It just installed and was up and running. On my desktop with the Gigabyte board with Intel P35 chipset and E6750 and Nvidia video card it is showning just about everything. It is also showing HD0 and HD1, I wonder if I hooked up the other drives if it would read all them too - I may try that later.
Piushsing - I keep looking because nothing I have tried before works on these new MB's. This one does, and I am pleased in the 30 min or so it has been operating. Besides it reads the temps of the HD's, the Nvidia card, the system board, the fan speed and a few other items I haven't figured out yet.
Those old PIII's didn't have the heat problem that the P4's and later do. But if that tiny little fan quits, I would imagine the CPU would get cooked. If you could graft a C2D heat sink ontop of a PIII, you probably wouldn't even need a fan!

hey rgreen - i can compare the size of the cpu fans. In my P3 , the size of the fan is almost same as the motor portion of the fan on the e6750. lol That can explain the difference. The fan on the P3 is still running cool , it was my first pc and now its around 8 yrs old. It can go on running for months without any problems. One benefit of a slower cpu. ;)

Yeah, I remember when they came out and had FANS! Wow, they must really get hot, the old PII's just had large vertical heat sinks, course at 233MHz, they didn't need much cooling.

Hi Coastie,

That sounds like a good drink. Did you notice that my post with the pina colada has banished? I wonder if the PCW gremlin did it again??? X-(

Anyway, I told you guys the other one wouldn't last long, it was interesting, but kind of dark and I changed it again. Here's the new one:

I really like this one a lot. This one reminds me of 1995, when I went to Hawaii with a girl friend of mine, we would see lots of double rainbows, almost every day.

One day it happened just below our balcony! I was in the bathroom, taking a shower and my friend knocked on the door and yelled "You gotta come out here, quick!" "But I haven't finished" I yelled back. She said "It doesn't matter, you gotta run out here" So I got out, wrapped a towel around me really quick, and ran to the balcony window, to see what all that commotion was all about.

OMG, there were two glorious rainbows starting right underneath our balcony, and going out to sea, one shorter than the other! The most beautiful sight I have ever seen. I felt blessed and honored at the same time, to be able to witness those two amazing rainbows!

Hey Adama, Yeah I found that stuff in the juice section at the Grocery store. You do see double rainbows frequently in Hawaii. I've actually seen them at least twice here. Stay cool out there, and watch the smoke. coastie

Okay gang, I have put this off, but today I was cleaning up (desktops) and decided I will reveal almost all. You know I have a custom machine that I built with the Intel P35 chipset, so I refer to it as my P35 machine. It is a dual/triple boot machine with primarily Vista and occasionaly XP, and if the drive is installed to research a question, rarely Windows 2000. The Windows 2000 desktop in the standard bland blue background.

Here is the original Vista desktop scene from the time I built the machine until it spend a week out at the camp with teenagers using it to publish a daily information sheet during a training session a month ago.

Posted Image

After they "adjusted" my machine this is the desktop it came home with. I kind of liked it, so I flip between the two. Both are standard Vista images.

On my old HP desktop with XP Pro, here is the desktop image that I have had on it for the past several years. It was originally my desktop on a Window 3.1 machine and came from a Second Nature desktop changing program. I stopped it from changing and have used this image ever since.

Posted Image

My final desktop upload is one of my favorites, and it is on the XP Pro side of my P35 desktop. It is an image I downloaded from the Blue Anges website. I have several DVD's of their performances and saw them daily in 1966 when I was stationed at NAS Pensacola. This was taken of the Lead Solo doing a "High Speed Pass" over the runway with smoke trailing from the wing tips and it's a humid day and the vortex and pressure drop over the wings causes the humidity to condense. Lest you think he's not going that fast, he's doing over 500 MPH!

Posted Image

I may have to move it to the Vista side so I see it more often.

That wallpaper is the best among the default ones that come with vista. And i can also see the cute bears playing in the slide show in the sidebar. Nice work rgreen. :)

Piush and Aurora - I had trouble with posting in FF3 this evening. I don't know if it was just FF3 or the PCW website. I had no problems in uploading and posting the first image, but when I uploaded the second, it would not let me select between the two. I had to post what I had, which is why the lead in for th second image had no image. I then tried to edit, but same result. I cancelled, closed FF and changed over to IE7 and except for the IE quirkiness had no problems. At least the uploads went smoothly.

We'll have to see if it is FF3 or just a early early Monday morning quirk.

Anyway, all four images are up now. I use different desktop backgrounds for each user id, and each OS and each machine. I have 8 (not counting the std. bland mono color on some user id's that are not used very often). I have 4 across two laptops and 4 across three desktops.

Hey Aurora, I have posted a question in the PC World website heading. Here is a [link|t-33912] in case you want to read over it. I think I have enough details so that it could be duplicated. I should have put in the post that all of this was on Vista. I did not check if the screens act the same way in XP. I will edit and add that.
