Yeah, I figured there was at least some chance a neighbor could get the signal. Well, when the time comes, I be sure I get everything set correctly. Thanks. I'll report back if I can find that parallel cable to see if the printer can work with my replicator off a hub.

That is the one option to try.

I still think it might be worth trying a parallel to USB cable and trying hooking the printer to a typical power USB hub with a cable from from the printer's parallel port.

I also just spotted a "dock" by Kensington that includes a parallel port and USB 2.0 ports and connects by way of a USB port. If you are still having problems, then it might be worth considering. Here is a link to it: us.kensington.com/html/10362.html

Haven't found my parallel cable yet to try what I already have, but the item you linked to looks a lot like what I'd want, it it does work. I noticed one review:

> The parallel port works to connect to my older HP Laserjet 6L printer (whereas a USB to parallel adaptor didn't). <

So that is hopeful. But I also noted another one that said the parallel port was actually internally a "virtual USB port" so who knows. I'm going to look and see if I can find it locally so if it doesn't work, I can easily return it. Unfortunately, checking the online sites for local stores here (Circuit City and Best Buys didn't turn this one up.

The price is certainly reasonable and the fact that it doesn't have a port for speakers is not a big deal (I only travel once a year with the laptop) and the lack of monitor port doesn't matter now since I don't have one. And if I do later, I can use the computer port for that.

Thanks!

Note that Kensington also had a more expensive one that had a video port and speaker port, but did NOT have the parallel port. Here is that one on Amazon:
