I recently sent a jpg attachment in an email using Outlook. The recipients not only saw the photo I sent, but were able to 'arrow forward' in the Picture Viewer that opened with the photo and saw numerous photos from my files......some of wich should not have been 'out there', if you know what I mean. This has happened more than once....how can I get the attachment to show ONLY the pic I sent? Save my life, please!!

Thanx,

socalmel

Hi SoCalMel and welcome to PCWorld. :-)

Okay, the only way anyone would see any picture in your collection is if you sent it to him or her. So my first question to you is how exactly are you attaching these pictures?

Step by step....create new email in Outlook, click on paperclip, locate jpg in my files, click to insert.......done.

Okay, doing it that way should absolutely not send multiple images.....unless you are inadvertently selecting more than one image. Using your steps, when you click on an image, that one single image is attached to your email. You would even see that one single image in the Attached line of the email header.

I use Outlook 2007 and, using your steps, attached one image to a test email and, sure enough, that one single image appeared in the email header. This process works the same in Outlook 2003. So, unless you are accidentally clicking or highlighting more than one image, I still cannot see how this can happen.

As a test, follow your exact steps and click on only one image, any image. Once you do this, look at the email header line and tell us how many attachments you see.

Just tried it.......the one jpg that I inserted was there, but so was another pic of a musician that was in a completely different folder......we're gettin' better though......at least there weren't several, as was the case in question. :-)

Okay, that is very odd. Try another test....this time, follow these steps:

- Instead of clicking the paperclip, open Windows Explorer (Right Click on My Computer and select Open )

- Navigate to your .jpg image folder

- Instead of double clicking (clicking) on the image you want, simply highlight it

- Drag the image from Windows Explorer into the email. To do this, click on the selected image and drag it to the email place holder on your taskbar. Your email should automatically come up. Place the image within the body of the email. (At no time should you release the mouse)

- You should now have one image in the email attachment

OK.....did it.......photo transferred just fine......opened it up and BINGO....there's that pic and the same addl. pic of the musician, but no others. This time my photo was selected from a completely different folder than any other attempts.

Okay, if I may ask:

- from where do you get these .jpg images?

- does the same image of the musician come up in every email you sent?

- is the image of the musician an image you saved from a download?

- what security application(s) do you have and what was (were) the results of the latest scan(s)?

* I store all my jpg's on an external drive, but this has happened before (on a different pc) when they were in My Pictures on my hard drive.
* the musician has shown up in the last attempts while we're testing this.....prior to this, there were various pics showing, not including the musician.
* the image of the musician was one I took myself and transferred from my CF card along with thousands of other pics.
* I use AVG and all my scans are clean......AVG updates are all completed.

Well, SoCalMel, I have to admit, this one has me spinning. We can look at this situation two ways:

- With AVG as your only security application, you are leaving yourself wide open to anything AVG may miss. Don't get me wrong, I use AVG and love it but I use it in conjunction with a host of other applications

- Since this has happen previously, there may be something amiss with your Outlook. You could try a complete uninstall/reinstall to see if this would work

Have you tried to send the email, with the attachment, directly through the email provider (Gmail, Hotmail, etc.)?

Thank you for spending so much time with this CRAZY issue......yes, I know I'm running on the thin ice side with only AVG......I have had Norton and a number of others.......sometimes causing more conflict issues than is worth it. I'm sure your words will ring in my ears should something hit me! When this happened previosly (with photo attachment), it was on a different PC with a different M/soft Office loaded on it. I haven't tried using one of my GMail accounts, but will and let you know. Must go now, but will get back with you in the next day or so. Thanks again for all your time and help........almost love it when you "techys" can't jump right in with a solution.....I don't feel so blonde!! TTFN

My pleasure. If anything comes to mind before you get back, myself, or any other forum member, will be glad to share it. :D
