Whenever I receive an email from friends or family and you have to open the file I have no problem except when it ends in pps. It just ask to save, and when I down load it, it sends me to a windows page and says I have to buy office or something or other. Nobody else I know has this problem. Can anything be done without putting out extra money? Thanx.

Hi Gale and welcome to PCWorld. :-)

Okay, a couple of points. First, I have renamed your Discussion to give a clearer description of your problem. Also, since your problem is regarding not being able to open a particular file, I have moved this Discussion from the Windows Community into the Answer Line Community.

Now, a .pps file is a PowerPoint file. The reason you have this problem is because you do not have PowerPoint installed in your computer. If you do not want to purchase PowerPoint, you can download the viewer straight from Microsoft. Click on this link to be taken to the download page.

Thankyou for you help. Sorry for any inconveince with the titles and discussions. I've had my computer for just over a year now, and don't fully understand it. Specially the computer jargon. That's why I joined pcworld. I'll let you know if it works the next time I get a pps. email. Thanks and have a Happy New Year!
