HELP Sound card threw in towel!!!!

Sound card (realtek AC 97) threw in towel OR windows is screwed BECAUSE i can't play music :windows is telling me that my sound card (which i've had for 4 years) is not installed properly! PLEASE help I am big music fan!! Such tragedy!

Hi it2007,
I'd recommend purchasing a new soundcard. Set aside that the card is probably outdated (being 4 years of age), you can at least be certain that a new soundcard will be more consistant and will generally sound better.

I've been experiencing a large number of users having problems with good working sound cards and video cards going bad after Windows updates have been installed. Seems that the drivers are being rendered incompatible with some of the newest updates. Some require a repair from the Win CD and others return to working order after reloading the drivers and others needed the cards software be uninstalled and then reinstalled. Good luck
