The Weather has been crazy-weird as of lately. Here in Nor-Cal we're having a lot of rain, and are expecting a really bad storm which has been brewing since last night.

They expect 8 feet of snow in Lake Tahoe - that's a lot of snow!

They're predicting floods in certain areas that were hard hit a couple of years ago, so people are already preparing for it, with sand bags, etc.

We've had a lot of rain today and right now it's drizzling where I live. And it's been really windy. I had to go to the post office and at one point, my umbrella was turned inside out by the wind!

How about you - what kind of weather are You having where you live?

We'll, we've had cold temperatures in Florida. It was 32 this morning and it's going to be in the 30s this evening. The heater had to be turned on yesterday ;)

To say that it is POURING rain in San Francisco is an understatement. It is rainy and windy... it's rattling my windows. I waited outside (in the pouring rain and gusting wind) for the bus for an hour and a half, but no bus came. My clothes were thoroughly soaked, so I gave up and came home to work from here.

They are saying 2 inches of rain and winds gusting at 62 mph.

I think I made the right choice.

I agree, I think you made the right choice, Kellie. It was really terrible last night and this morning.

According to the News, the winds were 70mph and worse in some places. There was a rig that overturned on one of the Bay Area bridges, can you imagine that?

I lost electricity in the middle of the night, but luckily it came back on its own. I hear there are about 200,000 people or more that are without electricity right now and won't be able to get it back until perhaps tomorrow.

There are lots of trees where I live and it got kinda hairy for quite a long time. Luckily it seems to have died down a bit right now, but they expect 2 more storms to hit us later on tonight and tomorrow.

O My Gosh, yesterday it rained a lot, but it kind of let up in the late afternoon.

This morning when I got up it was raining again. I was watching Pokemon and all of a sudden there was a horrendous C R A C K sound with a flash of lightning and the whole place shook! That lightning must have struck somewhere really close by.

Needless to say I turned off my TV (thank goodness, the cartoons had just finished) and went back to bed. !http://forums.pcworld.com/legacyimages/

They expect a couple more bad storms to come through Nor-Cal later on today.

Thank you, Bunk. Yeah, my laptop and printer were off, and I didn't turn them on until well after the storm had passed. :)

Hi adama, Thunderstorms are rare out there from what I hear. Here, they are commonplace in the summer, although, I can remember once where we had thunder and lightning during a heavy snowstorm. Just unplug everything and you'll be okay, unless you have a good surge suppressor, and even then I would still unplug everything electronic to be on the safe side. I've been watching the reports and they are saying it is an Arctic storm. I've seen the satellite shots and that thing is huge and is moving into British Columbia and still affecting SoCal. I remember Isobel in '03. 1.8 million houses and businesses without power in Virginia alone. We were dark for 8 days here. I think it was three days later, we had tornados. They say the next two storms won't be as bad as the first one.Anything else could be too much in SoCal after the fires, although they definately needed the rain. So far I haven't seen any reports about big mud slides.......yet, hopefully they will dodge a bullet in that respect. They are calling for 70+ degrees here tomorrow and Tuesday. I guess I'll take advantage of it and get the backyard cleaned up. Don't get days like that often here in January. I was wondering if you were in the dark where you are at. Apparantly, most of the power outages are in the Bay Area, I know that there are a lot of trees down in the area, and the insurance companies are going to be busy. I saw the picture of the Semi that got blown over. Here, they close down the Cheasapeke Bay Bridge Tunnel to high profile vehicles when the wind gets to 40-45 mph, for that reason. I believe it also extends to other bridges as well. The driver should have had better sense than trying to cross the bridge in the high winds, also the bridges should have been closed before the fact, instead of after the fact. I guess some of our friends to the north will be dealing with this monster in the coming week, as it appears to be moving into British Columbia, and then, I guess, to the East. Good luck in the coming days and stock up on whatever. coastie65

Hi kellie, Telecommuting is always preferable to standing in the rain and getting drenched. I haven't heard anything from my Cousins in Oregon and Washington nor my Aunt and Cousin in Eureka Ca. I guess no news is good news as if anything if there was anything really serious, I would be hearing from them. I have one Cousin and his wife in Sandy Oregon, ( S.E. of Portland) another Cousin and his wife N.E. of Vancouver Washington and My other Cousin and here Husband is in Moses Lake Washington, ( East of the Cascades). I saw reports of a lot of trees down in the Bay Area, but not much as far as slides go. Hopefully all that rain won't "lubricate" all those fault lines out there and cause them to slip. Not a good thought. We actually had a 4.5 out here and we don't even have a fault line. I thought the furnace was getting ready to blow up, but quickly realized what it was. This was about 4 years ago, I think. The next two storms that are waiting in the wings, are not supposed to be as bad. They'll probably be somewhat wet but not near as windy, from what we're hearing out here. Our forecast looks pretty good. They are calling for 70+ degree temps here tomorrow and Tuesday and sunny to partly cloudy. Sorry to hear you got drowned in that storm waiting for the bus that never came. At least you did make a futile attempt at using an umbrella as adama did. Those things don't do well in a high wind, as adama found out. I had to chuckle about that, although I don't adama saw much humor in it at the time. Well, stay dry. coastie65
