:D Hi Missy :
We need more Info to possibly help you ; best to start by telling us the SPECIFIC Name(s) of your
security program(s), such as antiVIRUS, antiSPYWARE/antiTROJAN, and Firewall !? Who is your
"web server" ? Have you been receiving any PopUp Messages ? If yes, what are "they" about ?
You should have a "Security Center" on your computer; what does "It" say ? Other than Outlook
Express and not being able to view "secure sites", what else is NOT working ?

Hi, Missy.
I had a similar problem just last week after installing Kaspersky Internet Security. Firefox and IE saw very certificate coming over the web as suspect, blocking access until I manually told the program it was good. Quicken couldn't contact my bank at all (because it has no way to override an unverifiable certicate problem).
The solution, which I only discovered yesterday, was to turn off Kaspersky's checking of encrypted connections.

Thanks for replying: :-)
I have AVG (which will not "update" for some reason), I did have Norton but uninstalled, I have turned off the Windows firewall.
My server is Hughes.net. ( I did contact them, they say it is out of their hands).
No pop-ups at all.
Security Center says: Firewall is on, auto updates check with me first, virus protection says: "Windows found multiple antivirus programs on this computer, but they all report that they might be out of date or are turned off.".
Thats about it, I no longer can pay bills or even look at my bank account page.
Thanks again for replying. Missy

:D Hi Missy :
Going to try and do a little exploration of your computer . So download the FREE version of
"SUPERAntiSpyware" from www.superantispyware.com/ ; then "Install" it, followed by
clicking the "Check for Updates" button . After that is done :
Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button.
Then click the Scanning Control tab.
Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked
* Ignore files larger than 4MB
* Close browsers before scanning
* Scan for tracking cookies
* Terminate memory threats before quarantine.
leave the others unchecked.
Return to the main page by clicking close on that screen. On the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer. On the left check C:Fixed Drive.
Under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan.
· Click Next to start the scan.
When the scan is done, quarentine everything found . Reboot if asked.
IF POSSIBLE, post the log in your next reply . IF YOU DON'T DO THIS, PLEASE make "Notes" of
the "Main" Items that were "quarantined"; however, do NOT make "Notes" of ANY "Tracking Cookies" .

:D Hi MIssy :
The Settings I recommended for doing a SUPERAntiSpyware Scan showed nothing serious; did you
install "CouponBar" on your computer ? Did you tell SUPERAntiSpyware to "quarantine" it ?
Based on the Scan "Report", you did NOT update the program PRIOR to running the "Complete Scan"
because the "Report" says "Core Rules Database : 3259 and Trace Rules Database : 1270 " whereas
the Latest is Core Rules Database : 3377 & Trace Rules Database : 1371. You need to click the
"Check for Updates" button located in the lower left-hand corner of the Main GUI PRIOR to next scan .
IF SUPERAntiSpyware will NOT "Update" on your computer, you need to tell me .
Would like to do a "deeper" scan of your computer; this involves selecting additional "Options" under
"Scanning Control" of SUPERAntiSpyware. Please put checkmarks in the following "Options" :
Ignore non-executable files, Scan only known file types, Resolve links/shortcuts during scan,
Scan alternate data streams, Use Kernel Direct File Access, and Use Kernel Direct Registry Access ;
then run another "Complete Scan" & let me know the Results .
Based on what you told me yesterday, I suspect you have NOT "completely removed" Norton ; you
need to do more than just "uninstall" it . Should also use THEIR "Removal Tool", which is available at
www.majorgeeks.com/Norton[uRemoval[/u]ToolSymNRTd4749.html] . After using "it" and
rebooting ( restarting ) your computer, let me know IF you are now able to "update" AVG
AntiVirus AND what your "Security Center" says about the "Status" of your antiVIRUS protection .
Do you have a firewall other than the "Built-In" One that comes with your Operating System ?
If yes, which One ?

You did it my friend!
All systems are good. Got my Outlook Express back and I can now go to my banking account.
After correctively uninstalling Norton and rebooting and updating AVG.
Here I am going to answer your questions just incase others need to know, again a big thank you.
The "CouponBar" I did install myself awhile back, (can't remember why).
I did quarantine it.
I had not done an update as you asked, (I got so excited about trying something first), I since then did update.
My Windows Security Center now says: My Firewall is on, Auto updates are set to ask me first, Virus Protection is ON with AVG 7.5.503
My Firewall is the built in type.
OK, thats about it. AGAIN, A BIG THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP.

:D Hi Missy :
Glad to hear your computer is back to "normal"; however, since you do things like Online Banking &
Online bill-paying ( which I do not do ) , you should "tighten" up your security. The Windows "built-in"
firewall is not that good ; you would be wise to install a software firewall, and IF you are interested in
good & FREE Ones, I recommend either Zone Alarm, Sygate, or Sunbelt Kerio, which are ALL
available from www.filehippo.com/software/firewalls . IF you were to select Sygate, I would provide
a link to its "SetUp Guide" . Nowadays there is a very bad piece of "malware" called "Rootkits" and to
best detect THEIR "Presence", it is best to have a program that ONLY looks for "them" ( antiVIRUS
programs are NOT very good at this ) . As a "Starter" program in this arena, I usually recommend the
FREE "RootkitRevealer", available from [http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897445.aspx] .
And lastly, I recommend you install the "Prevent" - type of antiSPYWARE program called
"SpywareBlaster" from [http://www,javacoolsoftware.com] ; this FREE program, which has Updates
about once every 2 weeks, currently prevents more than 9,200 Items from ever getting on a computer ;
there is a "Tutorial" about this program at
[http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial49.html] ; I would not bother about the
"System Snapshot" .
