I'm a fairly new subscriber to PC World paper magazine (since Sept 2007), and really like it-- It is a superb and enjoyable read for the everyday user. I have learned so much. My question is: I have before been able to access articles from the print edition, on-line--but for the life of me can't seem to get to it today at PC World website. I've put the article title in the search engine--nothing. Example: current issue (Feb 08) has an article on p. 138 on ". . . Secrets for Better Digital Photography." I'd like to archive it in my web archive utility. How can I find this (and other) articles at PC World web site ? I've accessed print articles before there !! Thanks in advance. Brad

hi Brad,

I'm so glad that you like the magazine! All of our magazine articles are published online, but we don't have them organized by print issue. Occasionally, we do change the titles of articles when we put them online -- either because we have more room, or the print headlines just don't work on the web.

I'm happy to help you find the article that you desire, but I'm looking at p 138 of the Feb 08 issue and I see Steve Bass' Hassle-Free PC column there, which doesn't discuss digital photography. Can you tell me what you are looking for specifically?

I'll provide the correct title and page number of the article I'm looking for. Please share with us strategy to locate articles at the website ! How do I find an article from the print edition, at the website. What search strategy do I use ? The article I'm looking for is on pg 134 and it is entitled "Three Secrets for Better Digital Photographs." Now, is there a "current edition" search ? Any edition search ? Article search by title ? By subject ? How does a subscriber get to the web version of a print article ?? Thank you. Brad

Hi Brad,

We don't have a "current issue" list of our articles. To find them, you must use our site search. I searched and can't find the article that you are looking for either, and I have my suspicions that it's a compilation of our Digital Focus column & newsletter. I've sent a note to one of the editors to help us out.

I'm having the same difficulty finding articles now that they are not organized on the website by issue. I wanted to make a comment about the results of following the instructions on p 127 of the Jan 08 issue entitled "optimze for broadband." I think it was part of the Here's How column. I searched various combinations of key words in the intructions but couldn't find the article.

I followed those instructions carefully, and the end result is that my Firefox ground to a halt. Fortunately I had paid attention to backing up the prefs.js file so I was able to restore Firefox to its previous state. Those instructions were worthles.

I suggest you guys make it easier to find paper issue articles on your website. I read the magazine at home, but then want to use the software that is mentioned at work. I do not bring the magazine with me. I remember some key words, but it is like finding a needle in a haystack. If it is a design choice to exclude a simple listing of articles from the magazine on your site, then I would suggest you reconsider that design choice. If it is because you do not have the resources, then well hmmmm.

Same thing here. A couple of days ago I was trying to help a new poster find an article on the PCW Website (about an article he had read in the Feb. 08 issue) and I couldn't find anything on it. No matter how I entered it in the search box, I got nowhere.

It would be great if the search function could give better results.

Actually, I've been a subscriber for a LONG time and it USED to be relatively easy to find a print article on-line. I agree with the other posters. Now it is virtually impossible.

Adama, what was the article you were looking for?

Sometimes, article names change between the print version and the online version. This is usually due to either space issues (compacting the headline for print) or because one just doesn't work online or in print. However, we do try to keep them as consistent as possible to help you find the articles that you are looking for.

Kellie,

Your reply today to Adama strikes me as somewhat defensive and unresponsive. Look at how many people in this thread are having trouble finding articles on the web site.

Try this for yourself. In my posting, I refered to a Here's How article on how to optimize Firefox for broadband (January 08 issue, p 127). Here are the phrases I used to search (all verbatum from the article), and none was successful:

Optimize for Broadband (title of the article)

Firefox's registry

Firefox optimized dial-up

I certainly didn't mean to sound defensive and unresponsive, and I apologize if it came out sounding that way.

However, I can't do much else about this issue. Personally, I agree that a URL list of print article to their online versions would be useful. The idea has been discussed and decided against. All you can do is what I've told you.

I don't doubt that you and others are genuinely having trouble. I'm happy to help in any way that I can.
