No-brainer, {at least for me, which I've been accused of being at times, :^0}. Because I am a huge Beatles fan, Stu Sutcliffe was a financial backer for the group when they first got started, but he couldn't play a lick on any instrument. The other boys, {Ringo hadn't joined to replace Best yet}, covered him, with Paul using a 6-string to cover Stu's air-bass guitar. That's shortly before Paul went mainly bass when Sutcliffe left and shortly after died in Germany.

I told you it would be easy. Pete Best was who I had in mind. After I posted, Stu Sutcliff came to mind, but I had forgotten the details of his involment, except the fact he died in Germany. There was movie that I remember seeing about that time, but forgot the name of it. coastie65

First, I compliment McB on starting this thread, and YES, I am really enjoying this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lessee here, I have one~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Heart with Nancy and Ann, Derosier was their drummer at the time, released an album {vinyl} with an "unofficial" cover art, later changed to the Official cover art. {somewhat analogous to the Beatles Butcher Block cover art,}
So~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1} Name the Heart album
2} Name the Beatles album referred to
Both albums were released in limited quantities with their original artwork , and sort of re-released with the more official artwork shortly after.
Trivia point, LOL, Heart didn't re-cover the "wrong" artwork album, they just redid the cover and continued on, but Capital did slap a new cover over the original butcher-block Beatle's album and continued on.
BTW, I have the Heart album on vinyl, and also the re-cover of the Beatle's album. {Ayep, I peeled off a bit, and the butcher-block is under the "new" cover}.
Something tells me, I need a life??????????? :p:p

Hi. I am really enjoying this thread. I'm an old Motown groupie, there's not too much about the Supremes, Temptations, Miracles, Marvin Gaye, et al, that I don't know (or least used to know). ;)
If you don't mind I'd like to pose a question: When the great David Ruffin left the Temptations he was replaced by Dennis Edwards. What group did Edwards sing with before joining the Tempts?

Hi unclew, Boy, that is a good one. I have vague memories of that as I was in High School at the time. I think David Ruffin was dismissed for some incident and replaced by Dennis Edwards. I think Dennis was with a group called "The Contours" or something like that. They had one big single with "Do You Love Me" sometime in the early 60's. I have that thing on an old Vinyl 45 or at least I think I still have it. I've mamaged to hang on to most of the 45's I bought way back then as well as albums ( I didn't buy many of them). coastie65

Coastie, I see your rep is well-earned. You're absolutely right, Edwards was from the Contours, whose song, "First I Look At The Purse" was one of my favorites.
Like you I have a stack of 45s and LPs (in less than mint condition) dating back to the early 60s.
What a cool thread :)

Whoa, that's a toughie. We're talking about an incredibly extensive discography for Aretha alone. One song comes to mind, "I've Been Loving You Too Long (I Can't Stop Now)" I remember Redding and possibly Sledge singing but I don't recall Aretha doing it.
We might need a hint on this one.

Patti LaBelle is quite a singer. I think the TV show Coastie is referring to is called, Live it up, or maybe Living It Up with Patti LaBelle... ?
Did you guys happen to watch Battle of the Choirs a few weeks ago? She had an amazing, amazing choir, and I was surprised that her group didn't win.
