Not before, but around the same time (Clapton era Yardbirds)... but before Jeff Beck joined the Yardbirds.

What group, very popular in the late 70's and early '80's, took care of business by splitting from the Guess Who?

What group tried the free ride by splitting from Savoy Brown?

Who's the bad band Zep loved, with the singer out of Free?

Name the band Rick Wakeman left so he could help form YES.

First one has got to be Bachman-Turner Overdrive (sp?)

Don't know about the Savoy Brown bit, but wasn't Free Ride recorded by the Edgar Winter Group?

I think the singer of Free got into Bad Company.

Not sure about the Rick Wakeman question though. I know he played with a bunch of different musicians. By the way, Yes was formed quite a while before Rick Wakeman joined. I saw them in concert with Wakeman's predecessor, Tony Kaye. I believe it was their first major national tour, and they were the warm up band for Iron Butterfly. Yes was so good that when Iron Butterfly came on stage to do their set, everyone started booing them. Both bands did a joint jam session at the end on the night for an encore, but the guys in Iron Butterfly just couldn't keep up with the far superior musicians of Yes.

It was BTO that split from the Guess Who.

The group tha splintered from SB was Fog Hat

The bad band that Zep liked was Bad Company

Rick Wakeman left T-Rex to join Yes.

Here's one for you - What was the band called that Clapton joined who did a song called "Can't Find My Way Home"? Sadly they only did one album together which was too bad because they had a great sound. Also who was in the group?

Man, I've been coming back to this all day. I'm probably wrong, but I think Rick Wakeman played with a group called Strawbs before moving on to Yes. This series of questions is almost bordering on the obscure. :D I am going to cut some slack here, so are you ready boys and girls ? This is a simple name that song thing. The top three people to cover this song was: Otis Redding, Percy Sledge, and Aretha Franklin although there were others. This also happens to be one of my favorite dance tunes. I believe it was done in the late 60s. It wasn't "When A Man Loves A Woman" ( another favorite dance tune). coastie65

Hi DBS, I happen to remember that song as it is one of my favorites. I'm not sure, but I think the group was Blind Faith, at least that is a name that comes to me. As to who else was involved, I don't have a clue. coastie65

Right you are coastie, it was Blind Faith. They were one of my favorites at the time as well. The band cosited of ,Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker , also from Cream, on drums, Steve Winwood from Traffic and the bass player was Rick Grech from a group called Family. Clapton did a concert in July of 07 in Chicago called Crossroads Guitar Festival with a bunch of his friends and other artist. If you want to see who was there go to crossroadsguitarfestival2007.com. Exerpts of were shown recently on TV. Steve Windwood and Clapton did two solngs from the Blind Faith album - Can't Find My Way Home and In The Presence of the Lord. Needless to say they both brought back fond memories of the era.
Do you know what other 2 bands Clapton went on to form after the shortlived Blind Faith? Both were also short lived but was some of Clapton's best work. Layla was a hit for one of the groups.

Hi DBS, I remember that I really liked the song Layla. I was hanging out at a strip club at the time and a couple of the girls liked to do their routine to that song. If I remember the juke box listing at the time, I think it was Derek and the Dominos. I know that Clapton was with Cream as well, but I'm drawing a blank beyond that. Man, all the skeletons are sneaking out of my closet lately. coastie65

Yup, I forgot all about them. That was during my wild and wooly days and things tend to be a little foggy except the fact that I eventually married one those strippers. :p Her status has long since been changed from Mrs. to Ex. Getting back to the topic, as I remember they were around only for a brief time. coastie65

McB and DBS are correct!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cookies to both, LOL. Well done. Actually, Wakeman came out of an obscure group called the Strawbs prior to T-Rex. I'm so old, I actually have the one and only VINYL album the Strawbs released, LOL.:^0 :^0
I did screw up, the hint should have been Slow Ride.

I'm still trying to figure out the name of the supergroup McB asked of, though, man I know who they are, but refuse to google it, :0

The Strawbs weren't that obscure (in the UK anyway), although, if I remember correctly, they were one hit wonders with a song called Part Of The Union. I didn't know Rick Wakeman played with them though. Apart from making money, I can't image what he would be doing with the Strawbs.

Since it looks like no one is gonna come up with the "supergroup", the answer is Steam Packet. Many of its members were gay (Dusty Springfield, Jeff Beck, Long John Baldry, Elton John), so a lot of people also assumed that Rod Stewart was also gay... a rumor that lasted for years after the group disbanded.

OK girls and boys... Another oldie. but moldy...

Name 3 hit groups that Peter Frampton played in before recording his Frampton Comes Alive! album. The last group was a one album project only.

The third band stumps me, but two were Humble Pie { yep, I have their Live at the Fillmore and Rats vinyl} and a little later was Frampton's Camel.

Hey mcb, It seems to me that Peter Frampton played in a band with David Bowie in the late 80s before " Frampton comes Alive". coastie65

Frampton's Camel was the third band, a project put together for the Frampton's Camel album. The missing one was his first (before Humble Pie), the one that put got him known. Guesses?

Coastie, You're right about Frampton and Bowie getting together in the 80's. I believe that they make a couple of albums together. Frampton Comes Alive! was first released in the mid 70's (1976 maybe?). I remember it well, because I bought it the same week my ex and I decided to get a divorce. God, I just realized that I admitted to actually buying that album. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but after a couple of plays, I decided that it sucked, and packed it into the "never again to be played" carton (which was dumped in the trash with the introduction of the CD).

Ya got me, McB, no clue. I don't want to google it, that would ruin the spirit of the trivia aspect, LOL. Sadly, I only have his Camel album on vinyl, and of course the Humble Pie, but nothing around to suggest the last band. I give, LOL.

At least he became well known for using the voice-box overlay to his guitar, which continues in a current Geico commercial, LMAO.

Hi mcB, I guess I got my timelines messed up a little. That happens when I'm messing around in the cobweb corner of my brain. coastie65

KB... The missing band was his first, a teenybopper band called The Herd. They had a couple of top ten singles in the UK, and only made one album with Frampton (I think, but not certain), before he left to form Humble Pie with Steve Marriott of the Small Faces.
