Anyway, I think I may have found a workaround for you. Within this Document are the steps to create a new User Account and to copy the files to the new User Account within Windows XP. I just did a test under Windows Vista and, although the verbiage is slightly different, the steps are the same. I cannot guarantee that this will work for you; however, it is worth a shot.

Thanks for the tip, I got it saved. For the short term I'll just keep my Recent Items list trimmed down to only the ones I mostly use.

I found this in another newsgroup. It worked for me (also eliminated the alphabetical sort problem):

Symptom
When you open the Windows Vista Start menu and right-click Recent Items, the option Clear Recent Items List may be missing. Also, the Recent folder may be displayed with a generic folder icon in Windows Explorer.
Resolution
This happens if the desktop.ini file in the Recent folder is deleted. Thanks & Credits to dean-dean for posting this solution in the Microsoft Newsgroup.
* Click Start, type "%AppData%MicrosoftWindows" and press {ENTER}
* Right-click the folder named Recent, and choose Delete. Click Yes when prompted.
* Now, type the command "shell:recent" in Start - Search box, and press {ENTER}.
Logoff and login back. You should now see the context menu entry Clear Recent Items List when you right-click on the Recent Items folder in the Start menu..

Jeroen, that worked perfectly! Thank you so much. It is nice to have my Recent Items back working the way I'd grown accustomed.

Hi Jeroen and welcome to PCWorld. :-)

Thank you (and Dean Dean) for that suggestion. This Discussion will be turned into a Document so that others who may have this problem can find it easily.
