Hi, i been trying to make backup copies of my movie dvd's, my os is vista home premium. I have a emachines AMD anthion 64 processor 2.4 ghz/ 895 Ram. I have tried various rip & burn programs like dvd shrink & dvd fab in addition to windows dvd maker & the live file system & mastered formating options vista has, but the results are always the same the finished disc will play on my computer but not my stand alone dvd player. The disc i am using is memorex DVDR. My drive is a DVD - RW super multi format dual layer optical drive. The movies i been working with are not protected according to dvd shrink & dvdfab analizers thats part of the software for those programs. Does any one know a solution? Thank you

Hi KungFo. I have some questions for you:
- Can you please give us some examples of the movies you are trying to copy?
- What is the manufacturer and model number of your DVD Player?
- Have you tried to use DVD-R discs?
- Have you tried DVD discs from another manufacturer?

These two questions are potentially good ones. DVD-R disks are generally more compatible by a small amount than DVD+R disk. This will be particularly true if your DVD player is on the older side.
The other issue it to make sure that you are using a program to "burn" the DVD-video to the DVD-/+R disks in a format that the DVD player will read. Just burning a "ripped" video file will generally NOT do that. You will need some sort of DVD authoring program that can take computer video files (AVI, MPEG4, etc) and convert them into the proper format that a DVD player can read and then burns to disk.

Hi kungfo, bcappel's solution was what came to mind when I saw your heading. Those things need to be finalized after being recorded in order for them to play on other Machines. I have two DVD recorder/VHS combos plus two additional players, and found that out early as I was transferring VHS tapes to DVD. coastie65

I have finalized each time. The picture dvd's i make using windows dvd maker play fine on my stand alone player. but when i try to use that program for movies it will go up to 5% encoding then widows dvd maker stops responding, that happens every time. I am using a program called dvd fab which has the re authoring option it creates a video_ TS folder from there i drag it into the windows dvd maker program. & also tried the live file system & mastered formatting options to burn.
