We had a horrible experience with Tiger Direct Company. Before you do any business with them or any company I suggest you check them out with Better Business Bureau. We bought a custom made system from them, and they used used parts in it, and wouldn't replace parts that wouldn't work, and come to find out they were going bankrupt so we were just out of luck getting our money back or replacement parts, and they didn't send us all the CDs that were supposed to come with the pc from the downloads they put on our pc. Better to be smart and check the BBB first.

Sam - sorry to dissapoint you, but to my knowledge, PC World has not announced a new Dream PC Contest. This discussion started in Jan, 2008 and was dormant for a while until some started in again about the cost. This discussion is still talking about the PC that was given away this past spring.

Hi shaley and welcome to the forum. Although I primarily deal with newegg, i have dealt with TigerDirect as well on occasion. I have had no problems with them nor with their service. I do not think they are going bankrupt, as they did buy the remnants of CompUsa and have reopened about 16 stores as well as CompUsa online. As far as the Custom Builds they offer, I don't think it is a TigerDirect thing but a separate entity that builds them and sells through TigerDirect. I believe it is CyberTron but am not sure. I have seen them, but was ambivilant about them. coastie65

welcome shaley and samj and tayan to the pc world forums
systemax is the owners of tigerdirect and they are the ones who build complete machines for them and separately
3 or 4 years ago tigerdirect was not to good to deal with but they have come a long way in rectifying that ( well here in canada but i am not to sure about the usa )the biggest complaint about tigerdirect ( here in canada anyways) was people were not getting their rebates and the second was not getting decent servive after a product purchase (weather it was a RMA or even just talking to a decent service rep
but they have changed all that now
good luck and take care everyone

Hey Dragon, Thanks for straightening out the name of that custom builder. They have done well by me when i have dealth with them. The rebate thing was a whole nother thing. I pretty much didn't bother with them because of it. They are doing a pretty good job down here as well. coastie

It was built through Tiger Direct it was several years ago maybe 6-7 . Put a bad taste in our mouths and we haven't trusted them sinse nor will we. It cost us to much, we had to go a buy another pc system and had to throw the other one away. We found out about the bankruptcy through BBB when we filed a complaint after no response after 20 or so tries with Tiger Direct. The worst part of it was that we had ordered and paid for our system to be built AFTER Tiger Direct had filed bankruptcy, they knew when they took our money and built a shotty USED part system that they had no intentions on standing behind their work or systems, they knew and still took our order, We knew it had happened that way by the date BBB gave us and our purchase date. Tiger Direct finally confirmed to us they had filed bankruptcy and would not be refunding us anything. No money or no CDs or parts. And no they would not take back the system and give us our money. THAT I know. I am just saying buyers beware, if they did it once they will do it again especially when the economy the way it is.

sorry to hear that I have purhase a lot of stuff from tiger and maybe returned half of it with no problems. I even referred friends.
I know its possible because along the same line when I was a noob, I needed tech support to install this XP os they got me for $120 and was no help whatsoever with my problem. AT&T was the culprit. the tech fell asleep on the phone
