well I am in need of some simple, good and fast anti-spyware/virus. Personally I am looking for something that won't cause me any troubles...like once AVG blocked out my interent for some reason, and I don't want anything like that. I would prefer if it is NOT real time thing (for example, that it keeps on running on the tool bar on the bottom right) so I can just run it whenver I need it. Also I need something that doesn't start when I turn on computer...I find them really annoying for some reason.
Also , of course, it has to be good and reliable. :)
I will tell you what I am currently using:
Spybot - Search & Destroy
Adaware SE Personal
SpywareBlaster
Super Anti - Spyware
and Sygate for the firewall.
Thank you!

Might as well uninstall your Ad-Aware SE Personal, since Lavasoft stopped "updating" the program
on Jan 1, 2008 ; I uninstalled my version around Jan 10 . And do NOT get the "new" Ad-Aware 2007
because I have heard from Expert Malware-Fighters that Lavasoft did little, if anything, in improving
the Scanning Engine . Without an active antiVIRUS program, your computer is an accident
waiting to happen .

For anti-virus, most on this forum will tend to suggest either Avast or AVG. I have been using Avast on my newer computers. It seems to run fine and is rather unintrusive and not anywhere near the resource hog that Norton Antivirus or McAfee was.
I believe that many will recommend Super Anti-spyware for anti-spyware software.

I have Webroot SpySweeper and Trend MicroAnti Virus, which I got at BestBuy when I purchased my laptop last April. They are excellent programs, for not a lot of money. BestBuy has the SpySweeper on sale for I think $9.99, don't know about Trend MicroAV. For me, it's been absolutely, totally worth it.
Like Coastie says, some programs are running in the background, completely unobstrusive. Also, you'll have the icons in the Notification area (bottom right hand corner) so you can access them whenever you want.
Good luck to you.

so, you guys think that AVG is the best one so far? (since the Avast is giving me trouble) Could somebody tell me if AVG is troublesome? I do not mind if it just turns on and just sits there monitering like Spybot Teatimer, but if it is constantly giving me trouble by pop-ups with updates, or any sort of pop ups. I won't allow that ...
Thanks all!

I have NEVER seen a LEGITIMATE security program give a "useless" PopUp; ANY Info they give is
something they found that effects the security of your computer and they are giving you Options as
to WHAT you want to do about it . Either that or you have NOT correctly "configured" the program to
meet your SPECIFIC needs .
Even though I use Avast Antivirus and Advise on their Support Forums, I feel AVG Antivirus FREE
Edition would be best for you because it is considered the easiest to operate .

Well I didn't mean useless in that way, I guess I was just annoyed by that some anti-virus would give too many pop ups haha, but I know they are well informed so, I guess it is alright if it is regarding my computer security. The thing is that I have somebody else that will be using my computer, and she will certainly be annoyed by pop ups and try to convine me to remove the program because she doesn't know a thing about viruses or how harmful viruses can be. :(
Well thank you all for your answer and I guess I will go with AVG then.
oh yea, just a quick question, does AVG have real time security? as in like looking for viruses that enter your computer and all.
also, anybody happen to know if Spybot 1.5's TeaTimer Real time security is any good for detecting spywares?
