Word doc & PDF email attachments appear as bin files and won't open

Hello;
I used to be able to send a Word doc and a PDF file as an email attachment and the recipient was always able to open the attachment. A couple of months ago the people that I send attachments to are not able to open the files because there is a message on the screen that says it is a BIN file.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it an email trouble, an ISP trying to protect against virus, etc.
Thanks for your help

Hello AuroaManson -
Thank you for your reply! Yes, I am very sure that I am saving the Word doc and PDF in the proper format. Also sometimes when I send an email with the attachment I also send myself a bcc and I can always open the attachments that I send which also is interesting to me.
When you ask about a MAC, I am using PC's Window's XP but I don't know that the person receiving my email is using. If they are using a MAC are you saying that the MAC on the receiving end may be causing the problem?
Thanks again for your help!

Some more information might be useful...
What type of computer? Mac or Windoze or something else?
Which email client are you using? Is it web-based email or POP/IMAP with an email client?

Hello smax013 -
I am using PC's (Windows XP home and also Pro). I don't know if the person receiving my email is using a PC or a Mac
My email package is Eudora 7.1.0.9 which is installed on my PC.
Thanks!

I suspect they might be using a Mac...and it might be an older Mac or at least using an older email client. The problem you have is one that used to exist predominately with email to/from Macs quite a while ago. It had to deal with how Macs used to deal with email attachments. By and large, it should not be an issue anymore, but it could still pop up.
I would suggest checkin with the person that you have sent the messages to. Have you successfully sent them messages in the past with no such problems? Or is this the first time you sent them messages?

This is the first time I have sent the various people email attachments. This BIN issue happened this morning with an email I sent. I will ask the person if she is using a Mac or a PC.

When you sent this message this morning, did you send it to multiple people? If so, did ALL have the problem or just a few/one? If you sent to multiple people and all had problems, then that would tend to suggest that it might be an issue on your end. If you sent it to multiple people and only a few or one had a problem, then that would tend to suggest that it might be an issue on their end.

I normally send my email with attachments to only one person per message. You are correct, if I sent to multiple people on the same message that would give me an idea of what the problem may be.
Thanks - have a great weekend!

If you get some more information (i.e. what type of computer the person getting the message is using), then let us know and maybe we can figure out what the problem is.
