Being a "furner" (as they used to call me when I lived in good ole Mississippi), I don't know much about US history, but I'll guess that it was Gerald Ford.

Hi mcb, Yep. What irony to have a question on US History, answered by a British Subject, at least I am assuming you are a British Subject.

OK lets try this: The Category is MOVIES: what movie starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman is a true story and involves an escape from a notorious French prison. One hint: the title is French and translates to Butterfly

That would be Papillion.

And, I think that McBarker said that he's from Ireland, but I think he lives in NYC. ?:|

Yep, nother gold star. You could have at least contributed a question before you departed. I guess I'll have to leave another.

Category WORLD GEOGRAPHY: Today we know these two countries as Thailand and Myanmar, what were their former names?

Close enough Adama... I'm from Scotland and live in Connecticut. We and the Irish share a common ancestry (Both Celtic... mostly Viking blood) ;-) By the way, where do you (and some of the others) access the extra emoticons?

OK... The subject is Spelling.... Spell the word "antidisestablishmentarianism"... Hmmm! No that won't work ; :p
Let's try QUOTATIONS

Yep, I guess I'll split that one between you and adama.
Lets see, World History: What event is usually credited to starting WWI ?

Sorry about the double post. It's this screwed up site. I didn't think it posted the first time, as I got a "system error" so reposted. I just came back, and lo and behold, both posts were up.

Hi mcb, I believe that may have been Linda Ronstadt. Incidentally, one of those guys lives over in the next County from me. coastie65

You're right Coastie. Boy, this site has been really bad all day. It's a little ironic that a computer magazine has a forum which helps people solve system problems, but can't even keep their own site working properly.X-(

I'm guessing, but would that be the sinking of the Lusitania?

This is WORLD POLITICAL LEADERS

Who was the Russian premier preceding Nikita Khrushchev?

Hi mcb, you missed on the Lusitania, that came after the outbreak. As for your question, I would have to say Joseph Stalin as he was the only leader I could think of before Nikita except Lenin and he had been long gone. coastie65

WW1 was precipitated by the assassination of Ferdinand (I can't remember his title).

Assuming my answer to the last question was correct, here's one in SPORTS:

Who was the first player to make in into the NBA from high school?
