Hi All. For all that have been around here for awhile know that I absolutely love Need for Speed Carbon. Recently, I found out that there are two patches for the game; however, I am not sure to what folder I should install the patch. I currently have version 1.2; however, the latest version I found was 1.4. I downloaded both 1.3 and 1.4.

I installed NFSC in Windows Vista. Each time I try to install the patch, it doesn't work. I have tried it in the default folder that the download application chooses, nothing. I tried to install the patch within the NFSC folder where the .exe file is located, nothing. I am afraid that I would have to uninstall/reinstall Need for Speed with the patches in order for the patches to work. Does anyone know of a better way?

Sort of a dumbbell question here, but I wanted to isolate the problem piece by piece: Are you able to play the game in Vista without any problems not running the latest patches?

:D Hi Techie. No such thing as a dubmbell question, my friend. Yes, I am able to play the game with no problem. It actually plays better within Vista than it does within XP. And to answer your next potential question, I have not tried to install the patch within XP because I have already uninstalled the game from XP.

Here is a Discussion from another forum. This person had the exact same issue. However, he or she was able to correct the problem by uninstalling the game and then reinstalling with the patches within the folder where the .exe file is located. This is not a good option for me. Why? Well, take a look at this car and you tell me:

This car has won me a lot of online races and I just do not want to lose it.

Does the game's website give any instructions for installing the patches? What about "Read Me" files with the patches?

Hi SMax. There is no specific instructions for the patch. It's just a generic download manager file, essentially a sophisticated compressed file. Once I click on it, the application asks me to what folder I want to download the the patch. I select, at least I believe to be, the appropriate folder and click start. It downloads the patch into the folder. However, when it is done, a Command Prompt window appears, and that's it.

However, I started doing some thinking. There is a User folder stored in C:UsersMPH EnterprisesDocuments. I would presume that this folder would remain if I uninstalled the game OR if it were to be deleted, I could always copy the folder onto another drive and then uninstall the game. Once I reinstalled the game, with the patches, I could paste the User folder back into C:UsersMPH EnterprisesDocuments. Does that make any sense? I have done that on older games played under Windows 98 but never under Windows XP and this would be the first time I have even thought about trying it within Windows Vista.

THAT would be where your game saves the file and I was starting on the same hunch you are talking about--You may have something corrupted, But you could reinstall the game and the patches without any problem and then copy those files in your documents "because once they are saved" we don't care about deleting the primary folder in your C:/Partition space. Your personal saved game file can be restored.
Try it- the worst that is going to happen is Carbon won't load in Vista which will REQUIRE another reinstall with all patches, but you already have your "game data" saved so your not going to loose your work.

I did this A LOT in XP, not with the same game, but you need NOT to worry about ruining your saved game- simply copy those user files from your documents in vista and give it a shot.

Thanks, Techie. I will give it a shot tomorrow. Now, if it doesn't work, you willing to give me $215,000 since that is the amount of money I put into this car. LOL :D

That was going to be my other suggestion...assuming that you can find the right folder or file that contains your player/car/user information. When I played Diablo & Diablo 2, I easily found how the games stored my characters and could easily backup my characters to either move to another computer (i.e. if I want to use a character that I was "building up" on my desktop on my laptop) or if I needed to reinstall the game. If you can find the similar files for your car you want to keep, then it might work. The only other wrinkle is if the patch needs to "update" the car files for some reason as well.

You might want to see if there is a "fan boy" site with forums for the game or the game's official site. If so, then others might be having the same problem.

Where did you get the patch? From here?

No, but I am going to try that site. It appears more official. I just did a Google search for "Need for Speed Carbon Updates"

You might also need to determine if you need to install the 1.3 patch first and then the 1.4 patch or if the 1.4 patch is "all inclusive".

Well, when I started to download from the site you provided, three things jumped out:

- I have the Collector's Edition

- The 1.3 patch was only for the UK

- Once I downloaded and extracted the 1.4 Collector's Edition patch, it indeed was all-inclusive.

I ran the patch. About 90 later, the patch automatically closed. I opened the game, and presto, 1.4. :D Good find, SMax. Okay, enough playing for one night. I have clients to prep for in the morning. :D

hi mph! nice ride there. If i m not mistaking it looks like mclaren slr.(correct me if not) I haven't installed any patches for carbon, its working fine on vista. And ya even if u uninstall your profile remains saved and next time u install, automatically it takes it.You may also manually take out the profile file in "documents" and make a backup of it and restore it to any system you want.I keep the profile backups for all that i have. good to hear that it was fine after the patch, i will consider an update also. :-)

Hi Piyush. No, it's a Mercedes Benz CLK500 with Body Kit package #1. The car is, quite frankly, a beast. I have beaten everything from a 300Z to a Lamborghini. I'm about to change the Body Kit a bit but this car is an absolute beast. :D Value in the game: $285,000.

I called by cousin's boyfriend, who works at a Mercedes Benz dealership, and asked him if a Benz like the one pictured was possible. He said absolutely. It seems that EA (Electronic Arts) did extensive research before making this game. Each car is exactly what one could buy in real life. He asked me if I wanted to buy one...I just laughed hysterically and said for $285,000 I could buy another home. LOL :D

ok clk 500. I had a gallardo and a skyline (canyon races) . i had taken many corvette's (undoubtedly the fastest one in this game) with the gallardo.

I checked out my version , it was 1.2. Any specific updates in the 1.4 patch that you know . And ya the cars models are great, they are even better in pro street. :-)

Hi Piyush. Not that I can tell. However, it did clear up one major issue. Initially, after my fiance beat two of the boss races (Wolf and Kenji), the game would freeze up and close. After the patch, problem solved. I haven't seen any other blatant changes. I will let you know if I do.

I may be behind the times but is Pro Street available for the PC?

yes mph, pro street is available for pc, it was there since december 2007.
The graphics and realism are worth watching, its only a bit behind actual driving on road. I mean you can no longer take turns sharp turn at very high speeds, cpu players actually try to block your way, damage part is so real (you can see different parts of the ride flying away according to the impact). The best thing what i liked about this game was the added smoke effects when the cars just starts to drift around corners.Earlier i didnt liked the drift in this one but later when i learned the correct ways it was more fun.
what is missing is the fun level , you wont be tempted it to play again. As its a bit more real, the races are a bit tough than previous NFSes especially the grip races. No street racing here and no cops. I still play nfs most wanted very much as it is so entertaining than any other previous versions. You can try out the demo first , i did that .Its around 780mb if i remember correctly and has two races to check out.

Hi Piyush. Thanks for that summation. Wow, no cops...no street racing?? That definitely is a negative in my eyes as well. I will check out the demo, thanks.

Hi Vlad. Thanks for that. Yes, I should have no problem at all running Pro Street. My CPU Usage barely creeps above 25% even when doing the most intensive processes. :D
