How are we as users benefited by microsoft attempting to beat google in popularity? This is a sheer dominate the world attitude that benefits no one except for the microsoft execs..Which is fine, if you want to try beat google do it.. but dont try make it sound like your doing it for the PEOPLE. Come on!

As long as google doesn't disappear, the deal will be good. Microsoft has a history of great innovation and a very strong product when it has strong competition.

A few cases:
Internet Explorer (versions stopped coming when Netscape faded, returned with Firefox and Opera becomming free).
Windows (When Apple lost Steve Jobs 9x happened. The ultimate result of that was ME... but when Steve returned, and with Linux becoming more finished, they got XP SP2).
Hotmail (GMail anyone?)
