I bought a pc that came with Windows vista home premium. After a few months I got frustrated and canged to linux. Everything works fine but there are always a few windows apps. you can't live without. I created my vm but I have no plans to install vista on it. Is it possible to install windows Xp and use my vista license to register?

Hi Ernesto. There is no way that you can install a legal and validated copy of Windows XP and use the Windows Vista license to register it. If you have a legal and validated copy of Windows XP, you should have the Product Key associated with it.

Not quite true.

There are some Microsoft licenses that include "downgrade" rights. Not all do, but some do.

This document should help some.
