I've had this happen many times where I'd lose windows media player for one reason or another and would loose all the songs in the library as well. I have it going again and this time took time to catagorize, tag, and all the other editing to get all my songs in order. I then right clicked WMP into a flash drive. My question is will this save it permanently including all the tunes in it? Or do I need to find another type of file, if so, which one that would keep it in the same order? Thanks

Hey whatup! We would need a little more info. on the type of PC you have, namely, which version of Windows are you using( XP SP2, Vista Home or Premium...) Also which version of Windows Media Player ( 9,10,11.). How long have you had this recurring problem? Have you Scanned you PC thoroughly and which program did you use(name and version) and what were the results.To my knowledge the information transfered to a Flash Drive should keep until ready to be copied to your HDD.I don't think you will be able to play Windows Media Player off the Flash Drive . The only one capable of doing this would be the new U3 program made specifically for Flash Drives. SanDisk Cruzer is one. Have you tried any other player - organizer other than WMP.There are a few good ones and free. If you did, tell us which ones and were the results the same. here are a few links you might want to look at ;

I hope this will help.

Hi
Thanks for responding....I run windows xp home, and have wmp 11. My question is just having saved windows media player as it is now in a flash drive (I am able to open wmp in it and it will open with all songs in thier order) and if, lets say, my entire computer crashes, have to reformat, and do a clean reinstall, will the wmp on my flash drive open up with the same songs once the computer has been reformatted? Or will wmp open up as a new application, having saved nothing?

ps...thanks for those links!

Hi WhatUp. If I understand your question correctly, no. If the computer crashes, once you reinstall Windows Media Player, you would have to load your entire playlist back into it, regardless of where the music is stored. The bigger question would be is your music on a separate partition (drive) than your Operating System. If your music is saved on another drive, partition, or other media, the reload time of Windows Media Player would be minimal.

Again, this is only if I read your question correctly. If I misunderstood you, please clarify.

Yes, all the music I have is on a flash drive (8 gb) and pretty secure there. But I just saw where I opened the wmp and a bunch of songs were missing, no clue as to why. For instance I had 6 under one artist and opened up wmp and saw there were only two, when I looked on I noticed more missing here and there. Looks like wmp isn't very secure at all and no point in going to a lot of trouble to get it right. I'm going to look through those links you provided and see about other alternatives. Thanks for your help (you understood perfectly).
