My wife has been having trouble with her computer lately. Its an older Gateway P3-800Mhz machine running windows XP It has run fine for several years. We ran all the usual anti-virus, anti-spam stuff (Provided by Yahoo, yeah I know but she likes it). We ran Belarc to see what it said about diagnostics. Here is the message:

QUANTUM FIREBALLlct15 15 Hard drive] (15.02 GB) -- drive 1, s/n 512019210449, rev A01.0F00, [SMART Failure
WDC WD400JB-00JJA0 Hard drive] (40.02 GB) -- drive 0, s/n WD-WMAMA1364942, rev 05.01C05, [SMART Status: Healthy

I am afraid I am not computer literate enough to know what that is telling us, but my gut feel is " replace the Hard Drive" might be a good translation.

Help!

Um...what kind of trouble has she been having with the computer? You say she has had trouble, but then forgot to tell use what that trouble is.

Is the Quantum drive the boot drive (i.e. is the OS installed on it)?

Hey there and welcome to PC World :8}

please answer these questions:
* How old is the laptop?

* What was the result of the test of your virus can?

* How much memory do you have?

* What recent programs have you installed?
