As a side note, I think I only know 2 people who own PS3's, and they both regret buying it.

The sad thing is most people don't even buy games for that system while the 360 enjoys the highest software and accesory attatch rate of any console.

The other comments (about "not in the same category" and "party games") just reflect how immature the tech is. Consider the primitive versions of 'normal' gaming, the arcade games with joysticks and buttons. Today, we'd probably consider Pacman or Caterpiller a 'minigame' rather than a full-fledged game (and even more-modern things like Bejeweled continue to fall into this category). All we have so far are really minigames in the role of Proof of Concept (or maybe Trial by Fire), and we're just getting to the stage of more-complicated games that use the controller 'correctly'. Game developers need time to learn how to use the tech, and I doubt that it will create an industry that isn't called "gaming" anytime soon.
People shouldn't dismiss the system just because the tech hasn't matured - I think that just reflects how innovative it is, and it shouldn't be a putdown.

Don't get me wrong. We have a Wii and use it regularly. Just not nearly as often as our Xbox360. The Xbox360 has way more games, and way better games. And that's just it:
Xbox360 sells way way more games and will continue to sell way more games than Wii. I doubt Wii will ever catch up in software sales due to the type of people who buy Wii. (i.e. families with children. Children are happy to play the same games over and over again.)
I know a lot of people who play games (male and female). Most everyone I know over the age of 15 prefers Xbox360. In the end it will be seen that the Wii is mainly for kids and "G"-rated family fun. The Xbox360 is for people who like the best games on the market and who enjoy playing in hi-def. The PS3? For people who like to spend way more than necessary.

But the FACT IS the Wii is in the same category but just has a different target audience. I have both the Wii and 360 and i can only imagine if Gears of War (or any 1st person shoot-em up) was on the Wii then it would have me moving of my couch because of the technology and instead of sitting in it. Have a look at Johnny Chung Lee's Wii project potential and you can see that if you get out of YOUR BOX (whether it be a 360 or PS3) what the technology would be able to do. I think i can button-smash all day too... but im more of a casual gamer. I think with this BLU_CRAP thing the tides will change and then you PS3ers will have their say about "displacement."

* Moot point and no more than fodder for quasi-journalists who can't think of anything more relevant to write about.
* Matters of opinion between users that can, and probably will, be argued ad infinitum.
So now let's talk about something that's really important: When is the next REAL version of SimCity coming out? LOL

Hey, 360 nerds, get on board with the FUTURE.
Stellar graphics don't mean shit, it's the gameplay experience, and Wii is it!!!

The thing is, Wii is the cheapest, and Nintendo is the most 'Family Friendly' company in most people's minds. You're going to get all those well recognized Mario/Donkey Kong/etc. franchises in it off the bat. If you're a mommy on a limited budget getting a video game for the kids, it's sort of a no-brainer to get this, especially if you look at the gory games featured for a PS3/360 next to the cute cartoony things featured for the Wii.
It doesn't matter that it's 'old tech'. NOT being bleeding-edge like the PS3 or 360 is a bonus. it runs cooler, draws less power and there are tons of factories that can turn out the 'old' chips for pennies that would otherwise be idled or forced to upgrade to make the 'newer' chips. There's nothing 'unproven' in the Wii at all. Motion sensors have been around for decades; they only recently became CHEAP. The rest of the console is a slightly upgraded Game Cube with some gimmicky new controllers.
A Wii can play in a minivan on those little LCD displays off a cheap, silent inverter because it consumes about 20 watts all day, and an XBOX 360 or PS3 eats 200+ watts just to boot, so you'll have to use a more expensive and hot inverter with a noisy fan, and gods help you if you leave it on when the car isn't running, because you'll need a jump start after a couple of hours. Important considerations for parents on a road trip. If you pretend to be 'green', the Wii is killing the planet 1/10th as fast.
Nintendo has only demonstrated that contrary to the opinions of big box buyers, the highest resolution and fanciest lighting effects is not what is most important to most consumers. Affordability and unique content is. The Wii doesn't 'suck', and that's all the better it NEEDS to be.
Sure maybe YOU are willing to spend your self into debt as much as PCWorld pretended to spend on their 'Dream PC' contest thing to see the prettiest blood spatter and boom-boom, but most normal people aren't, and that's what the Wii is demonstrating.
It's not as if the PS3 or 360 are 'doomed'. There's a market for them, it's just not the BIGGEST market.

In fact, what were ALL those people thinking--the ones who bought more Wii's in its first year than 360's in its first two years?
Then again, those people were all casual gamers, after all, so they don't count. Those millions of dollars they're spending is actually Monopoly money, right? Nintendo must be crying all the way to Marvin Gardens.
LOL is right!
