Hello

I have a one month old Acer Tm6252, yesterday suddenly the fn key stopped working, fn arrow left or righ for screen brighness, fn arrow up down adjust volume or any of the fn + f keys are not working.

I have tried installing a new version of launcmanager without it helping, also restoring the system no help. in device manager file QtZgacer.EXE is there.

Please anyone, any good ideas?

Thank you in advance

Hi Andrenor and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D

You have a 30 day old computer. Regardless of what may or may not be wrong with your computer, take it back to the manufacturer (or retailer) and have them repair or troubleshoot the computer. You should not have to worry about this with such a new computer, especially since you are under warranty.

Hello again

thank you for your replies. I very much appreciate it.

I know this must sound desperate, however if i have to send the notebook to acer i think it will take some time to get it back. If you figure this is the best option, ill sure ill survive hehe

Sometimes the notebook gets very very hot on the lower left side, is it possible that the heat has "fried" the fn key?

Thank you again for you help

I am not sure how much you spent on your computer but I am sure it was significant. I am sure this included the warranty. I know it may seem like a headache but contact Acer.

If you choose not to contact Acer, the only two suggestions I have for you:

- Purchase a laptop cooler plate

(the hyperlink will take you to a selection of laptop plates)

- Contact a 3rd Party Laptop Repair Company such as 800Tech.com. I refer many people to this company. They are located to in Manhattan and has a fast turnaround time.

What kind of system restore did you do a rollback or freshreinstall? I screwed up the funtion keys before on my husbands computer by removing things that shouldn't of been removed. Also have you tried uninstalling whatever it is you downloaded and reinstalling again?

Hi, I have to agree with the others who have brought up the fact that your computer is only a month old and still under warranty and should be taken back to the place of purchase, if possible. That having been said, I have a dedicated volume control on my keyboard as well as some others ( no brightness control as that is on my monitor). I have found that the volume control ( on my keyboard), for whatever reason, does not work with some applications ( Oblivion comes immediately to mind) and I have to use the control on the speakers. Again, you should take advantage of the warranty. coastie65

Just out of curiousity, anyone got any idea what is causing the problem?

Thanks again for all the good advice
