Here's what's happening. I went for a premium email and downloaded it. Have been using free version for long time and love it. The premium offers the ability to change the look of the icon for the service, "change its skin". It won't work. I contacted their support folks, and they want me to download a tool and run an IMData.cab file. When I asked them what that was, their response was "it is a file that assist us to investigate why your xxxxxxxx isn't working." Not exactly what I was looking for. I'd like to know what it is before I "run it" on my computer... I searched wikpedia for a definition, as I found lots of definitions there, but I couldn't find anything on this one. Appreciate any help with my puter education. Thanks.

Snorg, here's the url www.incredimail.com/su.asp?suId=1392
That's what hiding behind the click link in the email they sent me. My concern is, if I download this file, is that like giving them remote access to my computer? Guess I'm kinda paranoid, but it seems to me, that if they need to know what kind of operating system I have, they could ask me. As far as what files are on my computer for incredimail, I could tell them all that too. I could even search for hidden files.... What bothers me most is that when I asked what it was, they couldn't give me a straight answer. As I told them in my last email to them....look at it this way.... If you asked your Doctor what a colonoscopy was before you'd let him perform the procedure, and all he told you was, "Ah, it's just a procedure that will assist me in finding out what's wrong with you."....Would you immediately say "Sure go ahead," and then have that procedure?
I'm not in any hurry to get this fixed, it's just a matter of changing the looks of the skin around my Incredimail. I sure appreciate your patience with me tho. And thanks..... at least now I know it's a "cabinet file".

Its a download and install for your incredimail. I cant say exactly what it does or doesnt do cuz I have no experience with incredimail.
But I dont think it gives them any control.

Its good to be paranoid. As soon as you go to ANY web site they know what kind of operating system you have, and what web browser you are using, this is true for all web sites.
Since all its spoze to be for is changing skins, I think you should just forget about it. Its not important.
I use Thunderbird for email, I would not touch incredimail, but I understand that you like the frilly things it does.

Snorg,
Thanks for all your help. I've decided that if the "skins" function is going to be fixed, it will be by my telling them what is on my computer as far as their files are concerned, and I'm not running any download from their support group because I simply don't trust them.
