I was briefly a member on a forum for Bodybuilding that is run by a very popular Bodybuilding web site. I imagined I would find info on working out form other members..to my shock I found a large group of teenagers that regularly posted hard porno, pedophilia photos and advocated the abuse of children. When I commented that this should stop they ganged up on me in a very rude and vulgar manner. I would have thought this type of web posting to be illegal but according to the more mature members this has been going on since this group joined the forum in 2006! What are the police waiting for?

I can't say much, because I'm 4chan fan... but it's just all immature fun!

Good article. Last week I was looking through several Websites wanting to join another Community, and in this one Website I really wanted to join there was so much name calling, rudeness, bad language, etc., that I decided against joining.


I have run across a few JOTWs, right here in this Community, which is so appalling to me as to make me think twice before going into any of his or her threads/discussions. To tell you the truth, if I was a new person coming into PCW Community and saw all that, I'd hightail it out of here. It's a matter of decency, plain and simple, but that's just IMHO.

Well, the web is just an extension of life I guess. You got jerks in everyday life and it extends to the web as well. Either way I can cope. In the online world as in the "real" world, I have learned to just to back away, and not feed the fire. I have seen things get pretty heated in this forum at times, but rather than continue, I chose to just to leave the thread and move on with no further comment. There is a lot of immaturity on the web to be sure as is in the real world. coastie65

So true. If there's one thing that bothers trolls and griefers... it's to be ignored. :)

On some forums everyone is a JOTW, and they have fun saying stupid things trying to make others feel miserable, but I dont find that to be fun.

However, I do like to say something stupid when I think it mite make someone feel better.

I was a part of the funeral raid, also this happened 2 years ago almost to the day.
Also, no one calls it a massacre.
It could be deemed as griefing, but people need to step away from video games and realize that they are just that, games. Games, especially multiplayer games, are not places where you should live out real life events. Games are about playing and having fun. When people take it too far and attempt to turn them into serious rituals, then there SHOULD be pushback.
Did we raid the electronic funeral to make some nerds mad? Maybe. But in the end it was a clear statement. Video games are video games. If you want to make an online medium your home, and your personal place where you can enact relife tragedy, then you really should re-evaluate your priorities, turn off your pc and take a step outside.
No one needs to deal with your real life drama in a game that was programmed to be a game about goblins and wizards fighting each other.

I have to agree with you 100%. I was laughing so hard. I felt bad for the guys you all attacked, not because of what you did, but because they are so pathetic. They need grief counseling to deal the with death properly. Maybe send a card to the family of the girl, or gasp, go to the real funeral.

I think this is part of the problem with computers, and the web in general . People start taking it for reality, a.k.a. 2nd life, and this is coming from a guy who has been using computers since the mid-80's, and has been a gamer most of that time.

Maybe they should have dropped the WOW example and talked instead about people who live on the web instead of having a real life. Of course their advertisers probably would not like that kind of article.

The internet isn't some fantasy land but a real communication device.

I drew him =) I watched the series, and have read the manga from the library up to 5 ( I don't think they have 6 - 12 lol) I just got L's book too! Death note another note I think its called its about the los angeles cases when he was working with Naomi Misora and Rey Pember. Have you seen the movies?

It is a good article. But if that's the only example of a flame war. That's nothing.

I have seen flame wars that are WAY worse than that. Actually I'm surprised that got so much attention. It's kiddie stuff compared to what I've seen.

Pags, its nice to know what a great guy you and others like you are! Whats so bad about a group of players paying respects to a friend? The people who held this gathering on WOW showed alot of class, the raiders were just rude and thoughtless.

I don't know how familiar you are with World of Warcraft, so I'll provide some details you may be unaware of.
There are basically two types of servers (aka "realms") available for use. One is called "Player versus Environment" (PvE). On these servers, it is impossible to attack anyone else unless the potential target has done something to allow it. Anyone who has played on one of these realms quickly learns how to prevent being "flagged" for attack unless this is what is desired.

A lot of people find this kind of environment quite boring. That is why there is another type of realm called "Player versus Player" (PvP). When playing on one of these realms, you're almost always vulnerable to attack. This adds a great deal of excitement to the game.

Based upon what I read, the services must have been held on a PvP realm. This tells me that the deceased preferred to play this way. And since the entire realm is fixed at either PvE or PvP, it's fairly safe to say that all the deceased friends also preferred the PvP style of play. I personally find it quite fitting that the services were raided. (It's also why I choose to play on a PvE realm)

By the way... even on a PvP realm it is possible to choose a location for the services where the attendees would have been immune from attack. I find it interesting that they did NOT choose to hold the services in one of these locations.
