Hi All. I got some friends who will upgrade their laptops and would like to know should they wait for New laptops with Solid state drive, or go with the highest

HDD .( at what speed is available for about 400Gb ?)

Thanks in advance.

I would personally wait until the solid state drives come out (if you can). Vista thrashes the hard drive incessantly, more than any other OS I've had, and I fear I'll have to own my own hard drive company before moving on to the next OS!

Hi Tech4Me. Okay, solid state drives are great, but pricey. It is great to stay with technology but your friends really have to consider the cost factor. Here is an example:

Internal Solid State Drives by themselves are expensive. Here is a list of all available internal Solid State Drives available on Newegg.com. The least expensive drive is $160 for an 8GB drive. To further drive home this point, here is a Lenovo laptop with a Solid State Hard Drive. A quick currency conversion shows that this laptop retails for over $3000.

If your friends have disposal income like that and really do not care about anything else, go with the Solid State Hard Drive. Honestly, I say wait until the price drops considerably. I personally will not even look at a SSHD for at least another year, maybe more

I do not see any reference to a 400GB Laptop Hard Drive on Newegg.com. This is not to say they do not exist; however, I use Newegg.com religiously and the highest they have is 320GBs. They only have three of them and all of them are 5400 speed. Here is the list.

Hi Mph. I see what saying....$3000.00 for a laptop with 64Gb SSHD does not make any sense for me .

I hope it will drop down in next 2 years.....You think? I'll relay your message to my friends, this definitely will help them to make decision.

Thanks a punch.

(BTW, Newegg.com is a good site to shop.I bought a couple of mem.sticks from them. Very good Tech.Support.)

It is indeed. I like to refer to it as the holy bible of computer hardware paradise. The prices are great, too.
Cheers.
