Hi Kenny and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D
First, I have changed your Discussion title to give a clearer indication of your question. For future reference, please be as descriptive as possible in both the heading of your Discussion as well as the post itself.
Now, can you please provide a little more information? In what format are the videos from your camera? I do not want to assume the file type just yet but we can point you in the right direction once we have that information.

That is what I expected you to say. :-)
Quicktime's default extension is .mov. If you want to associate another application with this extension, you have to do it manually. You can click on this hyperlink to find the steps to associate Windows Media Player with .mov files.

Hi Kenny, Welcome to the forum. I have both Real, and of course, Windows Media Player. Initially, when I played a video from my camera, it played in Media player as that was the default setting. I just got an upgrade to Real and set the default to that player. I don't know what kind of camera you are using ( I am using an HP Mz87v PhotoSmart). Have you got the latest version of Windows Media Player ( I believe it is 11) ? Ok, after going back I see you have the latest WMP. Piyush had some good thoughts concerning the codec as well. You said the problem surfaced after downloading an installing a codec. I would recheck that as well. coastie65

Okay, well as Piyush and Coastie pointed out, make sure you have the latest Codecs installed on your computer. Here is one that downloaded and I have not had a problem:
K-Lite Mega Codec Pack
As a note, do not change any of the settings and make sure you install all of the codecs and not just a select group.

i wud like to intervene a bit, this codec pack is the best and i have also been using only this one , but one setting you should change during install from the default settings for better results. Just uncheck install windows media player classic .This will only install additional codecs and filter and no separate players. :-)

Kenny, if you do not want to use QuickTime as your default player, you do not have to use it. That's the beauty of having a choice. If you truly want to use Windows Media Player as your main player and all other files work within Windows Media Player, uninstall QuickTime and make sure that you install the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack so that you are up to date on all the latest codecs.
Once you verify that the files from your camera can be played within Windows Media Player, then you can reinstall QuickTime. However, make sure you uncheck all file associates of QuickTime, especially the .mov file you want to play through Windows Media Player.

Well, that was my fault. I made the suggestion of K-Lite and forgot to mention the Windows Media Classic option. However, Piyush did mention it.
Okay, try this:
- Uninstall both Windows Media Player Classic and QuickTime
- Restart your computer
- Once your computer completely restarts, attempt to play one of your video files with Windows Media Player 11
