Hi David and welcome to the PCWorld Communities. :D
The information you have provided to this point really does not tell us anything or give us any type of direction to troubleshoot your concern. When creating your Discussion, please be as concise as possible and provide as much information as possible. What specifically about either of the programs you listed was hard to figure out?
More specifically, DVD Decrypter was a product that, when still released, was used to remove the encryption from copy-protected DVDs. If you are truly trying to make a DVD of your home movies, you do not need a product like this.
Your home movies are created in a specific file format. Since we do not know the file format of your home movie, we can only speculate at this point. Let's say that the home movies you made were saved as .avi files. You can use a product call WinAVI to convert the .avi file into a DVD format.
Obviously, the application we suggest to you is dependent on the file format of your home movie. Anything else is against the Community Standards of this forum and cannot be discussed.

Let me give more details:
home movie made with sony dv camcorder
dvd made from the home movie dv tape using the sony direct recorder VIDEO RECORDABLE DVD DRIVE model VRD-MC1
the resulting DVD plays on my regular DVD player
I want to make several copies of the homemade DVD (which has VOB files) using a copy program to save time since the Sony VRD-MC1 only records in real time and also I want to save the wear and tear on the camcorder of having to read the dv tape each time
DVDdecreptor used as a trial to see if it would work since nothing else does that I can find.

Okay, that is definitely more information and now we can give you a better direction. CloneDVD 2 will do what you need. You can download a 21-day trial from the vendor. However, I must stress, this application is for unprotected, not copy protected DVD. If you attempt to use this application for the purpose of copying Motion Picture movies, the application will cease and give you an error message.
I referred this application to another member and she had no problem using it. Please post if you run into any problems.
